ClimateCAP

ClimateCAP is an initiative managed by Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, with financial support from the Hearst Foundations. It helps MBA students understand climate change as a business issue and prepare to lead on it in their careers. It runs an annual MBA Summit, an MBA Academy and a 12-month MBA Fellowship open to students from any country. Fellows learn with climate thought leaders, build a close cohort and carry out their own climate-action projects.

Role

The ClimateCAP MBA Fellowship is a 12-month, cohort-based programme for current MBA students who want to become climate leaders. Fellows join workshops and dialogues with thought leaders, build a community with their cohort, and design and complete an applied climate-action project with results that can be published. The programme is immersive and runs from January to December 2027, with almost everything held online and one in-person Summit in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Design a climate-action project and carry it out over the 12-month fellowship, alone or together with other fellows.
  • Produce a public-facing deliverable from the project with results that can be published.
  • Take part in workshops on academic, professional and climate leadership development.
  • Join dialogues with climate thought leaders and business innovators.
  • Attend periodic group check-ins and share progress on your project.
  • Work with a one-on-one mentor or coach on your own development goals.
  • Attend the ClimateCAP Summit and the Fellow-only event held alongside it.
  • Act as an ambassador for ClimateCAP on your campus and in your wider network.
  • Promote the ClimateCAP Summit and Fellowship to other MBA students.
  • Engage with the ClimateCAP fellowship alumni community.
  • Speak at a future Summit if invited.

Requirements

  • Current full-time enrolment in an MBA programme for the entire fellowship year, January to December 2027.
  • Graduating in December 2027 or later. One-year MBA programmes and non-traditional academic calendars may be considered.
  • Dual-degree students are eligible if one of the degrees is an MBA and they graduate in December 2026 or later.
  • Students from any country can apply. Attending a ClimateCAP partner school is not required.
  • A strong command of the English language and an excellent academic record.
  • A climate-action project idea, which is a required part of the application. The project can be new or build on existing work, but it cannot be paid work.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in climate-related or sector-specific work. Professional experience in climate change is welcome but not expected.
  • Excellent research and writing skills, and strong communication skills.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work in a self-directed way.
  • Flexibility and willingness to co-design the programme with the cohort.
  • Ability to commit fully to the 12-month programme, with events held during US daytime hours. All elements are virtual except the Summit, held on 5-6 February 2027 at Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business in New York City.
  • There is no application fee and no programme cost.

Benefits

  • A fellowship award on selection into the programme. The award may be taxable, and tax is withheld automatically for non-US citizens studying outside the US.
  • Where law or institutional policy prevents paying a fellow, ClimateCAP reimburses approved Summit travel, expenses and project costs up to the value of the award.
  • One on one mentoring and coaching for personal development.
  • Workshops on academic, professional and climate leadership development.
  • A guaranteed seat at the annual ClimateCAP Summit, including a Fellow-only event.
  • Networking with business leaders, innovators and a cohort of climate changemakers.
  • Structured space to pitch ideas, get feedback and run your own climate project.
  • Recognition on the ClimateCAP website and long-term membership of the fellowship alumni network.
