Indic Digital Archive Foundation (IDAF) is a non-profit working to preserve and provide open access to India's documentary heritage through technology, community participation, and innovation. Its initiatives include Granthappura, Kerala's community-driven digital archive; Olam, one of the largest online Malayalam dictionaries; Samam, a multilingual dictionary connecting South Indian languages; and Alar, a Kannada online dictionary.

Role

A field-oriented communications role for someone who enjoys meeting people, visiting libraries and partner institutions, and sharing meaningful stories. The Communications & Storytelling Lead will work with founders, researchers, librarians, and partners to document IDAF's work, manage media relations, and strengthen its public voice.

Responsibilities

• Discover, document, and tell compelling stories emerging from IDAF's projects
• Create articles, blog posts, newsletters, press releases, and other communication materials
• Handle media inquiries, coordinate interviews, and build relationships with journalists
• Plan communications for projects and events
• Coordinate event publicity, photography, videography, and post-event communication
• Manage communications across the website, newsletters, and social media channels

Requirements

• Excellent written and spoken Malayalam and English
• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills in both languages
• Experience in journalism, communications, public relations, media, or content writing
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
• Comfortable interacting with journalists, institutions, volunteers, researchers, and diverse stakeholders
• Photography, videography, or digital storytelling skills are an advantage
• Curiosity, initiative, and passion for meaningful work matter more than titles or years of experience
