Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR) was set up in 1993 and works to make rural life in India more secure against drought, water scarcity and a changing climate. Its work covers watershed development, climate change adaptation, training and capacity building for village groups and other NGOs, women's empowerment, micro credit and poverty reduction. WOTR has run projects as an implementing agency, a support agency and a service provider for national and international partners. It works across seven states, namely Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand and Rajasthan, with its head office in Pune. This role sits within WOTR's project team in Chhattisgarh, which carries out the social and community side of watershed and village development work on the ground.

Role
The Community Mobiliser is WOTR's day to day presence in the villages. You will bring people together around the project, keep self-help groups and village committees active, run trainings for women and the wider community, and make sure village records and reports stay accurate and up to date. The work is field based and depends on steady relationships with village members, government staff and your own colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the WOTR project team in the assigned area.
- Assist the Project Manager in planning, carrying out and monitoring the social component of the project.
- Lead social mobilisation and help organise communities for project implementation.
- Attend Gram Sabha meetings as required and conduct meetings of self-help groups, SMS, and the Village Development Committee.
- Check self-help group registers and update all village level registers.
- Conduct project level trainings on social themes and on issues affecting women.
- Build links between the villages and government and line departments for village development.
- Explain the tools prepared by WOTR at village level and share clear information that supports better development.
- Work with colleagues and internal departments across the concerned offices and take part in the common tasks of the Regional Resource Centre.
- Contribute to WOTR's social database, documentation, training module preparation and report writing.
- Submit a monthly planner and monthly reports to the Project Manager.
- Take up other work assigned by the organisation.
Requirements
- A graduate degree in any discipline.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant field experience.
- Experience working directly with rural communities and village institutions.
- Understanding of self-help groups, including how their meetings and registers work.
- Experience organising and running community meetings and trainings.
- Comfort working with women's groups and on issues affecting women.
- Ability to work with government and line department staff to secure support for villages.
- Care and accuracy in maintaining village level registers and records.
- Ability to prepare monthly plans and written reports.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
- Fluency in Hindi, and the ability to speak with people in the local language of the area.
- Willingness to travel regularly to villages in and around Manendragarh.
- A team approach, since the role works alongside several internal departments.
- Patience, listening skills and respect for the communities you work with.
