Kosi Lok Manch works with communities to protect children from harm and to make sure the law works for them. Its teams reach families, panchayats, schools and government offices to stop child marriage and child trafficking before they happen, and to stand with children who have already been hurt. The work is done close to the ground, in villages and district towns, alongside police, child protection authorities and local leaders. This role sits within the Access to Justice for Children project, a Just Rights for Children UK programme that aims to prevent and end child trafficking, child sexual abuse both offline and online including child sexual exploitation and abuse material, and child marriage by strengthening legal action, community engagement, access to justice and support for children in recovery.

Role

The Consultant Assistant State Intervention Officer supports the State Intervention Officer in carrying the project forward across Sikkim. You will keep a clear record of the organisation's work against child marriage and child trafficking, help build and hold relationships with government and law enforcement at state and district level, and take part in campaigns that reach communities directly. The role covers East Sikkim (Gangtok), North Sikkim (Mangan), Pakyong, Soreng, South Sikkim (Namchi) and West Sikkim (Gyalshing), so regular travel is part of the work.

Responsibilities

• Document the organisation's programmes, activities and campaigns against child marriage and child trafficking at the state level.
• Maintain accurate records, notes and reports of field activity so the project's work can be tracked and reported.
• Support the State Intervention Officer in reaching out to state and district government officials.
• Coordinate with child protection authorities, law enforcement officials and other stakeholders on the ground.
• Strengthen the organisation's partnerships at state and district level.
• Take part in campaigns on child marriage and child trafficking across the six districts.
• Reach out to local communities, panchayats and schools so campaigns have the widest possible reach.
• Travel regularly across districts in Sikkim to support field activity and follow up on cases.
• Organise and manage project data using Microsoft Office tools.
• Carry out other project and programme work assigned by the State Intervention Officer from time to time.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), Sociology, Rural Development, Psychology or a related field.
• Freshers are welcome to apply.
• 1 to 2 years of experience in child protection, anti-human trafficking, child labour or child rights projects.
• Basic working knowledge of the POCSO Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the Juvenile Justice Act and the Child Labour Act.
• Comfort working with people from many different groups, communities and backgrounds.
• Empathy, an open outlook and willingness to take on new experiences.
• Strong leadership & report writing skills.Clear communication skills, spoken and written
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and in managing data.
• Willingness to travel often within the district and across the state.
• Working experience with district government agencies is an added advantage.
