SNEHA is a Mumbai based non profit working to improve health, nutrition, and safety for women and children in vulnerable urban informal settlements. It runs programs on maternal and child health, adolescent empowerment, prevention of violence against women and children, public system partnerships, and palliative care. Between 2016 and 2025, SNEHA directly reached over 620,000 women, children, and healthcare workers, and indirectly impacted over 3.6 million people across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Today SNEHA is a 500 plus member organization with deep grassroots presence and a strong record of reducing maternal and child mortality, malnutrition, and gender based violence.
Role
A counselling and case management role supporting survivors of gender based violence, working to strengthen how the health system responds to violence against women and children across MBMC and VVCMC, through training, mentoring, and direct case support.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with facility based counsellors to build violence response support into routine health services
- Coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure survivor centered, comprehensive care
- Support and mentor counsellors, and help manage complex or crisis cases
- Train and build the capacity of ASHAs and ANMs on identifying and managing violence cases
- Develop individual care plans with counsellors based on survivor needs
- Conduct community visits, home visits, and follow ups
- Build and strengthen referral networks with de-addiction centres, One Stop Centres, NGOs, and other community services
- Document case updates and support counsellors with case documentation
- Conduct regular follow ups on existing cases and support survivors with counselling and coping strategies
- Carry out joint risk assessments for violence and safety, and develop safety and care plans
- Facilitate family counselling sessions and act as a bridge between survivors, families, and support systems
Requirements
- Master of Social Work required, Diploma in Counselling preferred
- 3 to 5 years of experience in counselling and case management, ideally in violence against women and children, gender based violence, mental health, or psychosocial support
- Experience working with public health systems, government bodies, or community based programs
- Strong experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including healthcare providers, government departments, and NGOs
- Experience training and mentoring frontline workers or volunteers
- Strong skills in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning
- Strong documentation and reporting skills, with attention to accuracy and confidentiality
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities within a team
- Empathetic, ethical, and able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
- Resilient and adaptable in challenging community settings
