The Circle India

The Circle works to improve learning for children in low-income communities across India. Circle U is its teacher-preparation and capacity-building vertical, built to help teachers and coaches grow their skills. By 2033, Circle U aims to become a respected School of Education that prepares more than 3,000 educators with the ability to reinvent learning. Circle U is entering its second year, so systems are still being shaped and quality benchmarks are still being set. This is a chance to help build an institution from the start. 05e579_89f4f210382b4fc98368ead6c4d83475~mv2.png

Role

As Curriculum Consultant, Circle U, you will help shape how teachers across India learn to teach. You will design high-quality teaching materials, especially for reading and literacy, run training sessions, and lead on-the-ground support in partner schools by working directly with teachers and students. In the coming year your work will reach 400 educators: 200 teachers and coaches in a one-year certification program that combines in-person residencies, school-based apprenticeships, virtual learning, site visits and coaching, and 200 more educators through short hybrid courses beyond The Circle Network. This role suits someone who enjoys the pace and open questions of a start-up setting inside a mission-driven organisation.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-quality literacy teaching materials across the pillars of reading, including phonics lesson plans, comprehension worksheets, formative assessments and practice resources.
  • Adapt existing materials so they fit the real needs of classrooms.
  • Improve materials based on classroom observations, teacher feedback and student learning data.
  • Facilitate training sessions across in-person residencies, virtual electives and other learning touchpoints, especially those linked to literacy and teaching practice.
  • Source, design and adapt materials used across Circle U programs, including rubrics, assessment resources and high-quality instructional materials.
  • Contribute to grade-specific learning experiences across program tracks for kindergarten, elementary and middle school.
  • Lead instructional support at allocated Circle U partner sites through classroom observations, lesson modeling, workshop facilitation and coaching with clear, useful feedback.
  • Support teachers and coaches in applying what they learn in Circle U sessions to their own classrooms and schools.
  • Build trusting relationships with school teams to strengthen teaching practice and student outcomes.
  • Share field insights and lessons from implementation so curriculum quality keeps improving.
  • Build relationships with entrepreneurs, school leaders, faculty and ecosystem partners to strengthen program delivery.
  • Contribute to the leadership culture, values and ways of working of Circle U and The Circle as the vertical grows.

Requirements

  • Strong experience designing curriculum and teaching materials, with real depth in literacy and the pillars of reading.
  • Experience teaching, coaching or training teachers, and comfort modeling lessons in a live classroom.
  • Ability to facilitate sessions for adults, both in person and online.
  • Skill in using classroom observation and student learning data to improve materials.
  • Comfort working in an early-stage setting where systems are still being built and answers are not yet fixed.
  • Willingness to travel to partner school sites and work directly with school teams.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, and the ability to give feedback people can act on.
  • Warmth, humility and the ability to build trust with teachers and school leaders.

Benefits

  • A founding-team role in a teacher education model that could change how teachers are prepared in India.
  • Direct influence on the quality benchmarks and long-term identity of Circle U.
  • Work that reaches 400 educators in the coming year, and thousands over time.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven culture with strong learning and growth opportunities.
  • Competitive compensation.
