Vikramshila Education Resource Society is a non-profit organisation set up in 1989 to improve school education in India, with close attention to early childhood education, literacy, numeracy and primary and secondary learning. It works alongside state governments on curriculum reform, teaching and learning materials, training, and the building of working models that others can learn from and adopt. Headquartered in Kolkata, it runs field offices in Lucknow, Guwahati, Pune and Ranchi. Its work reaches schools, Anganwadi centres, madrasas and community learning centres across West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. This role sits within Vikramshila's Jharkhand project team, which is working to bring Social and Emotional Learning into early childhood care and education inside government systems through policy support, curriculum, training, mentoring and evidence.

Role

The District Lead runs the project on the ground in one assigned district of Jharkhand. The work brings together district and block government officials, frontline functionaries, communities and the project team so that Anganwadi centres and Balvatikas get real, steady support. Alongside the state-wide work, the project gives intensive support to selected centres in Chakulia block of East Singhbhum and Churchu block of Hazaribagh, which serve as demonstration sites. What is learned at these sites is meant to shape how the approach spreads across Jharkhand. The District Lead reports to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities

• Lead day to day project work in the assigned district and keep it moving to plan.
• Develop district implementation plans and track progress against them.
• Spot problems in the field early and resolve them, keeping quality steady across all project sites.
• Coordinate with ICDS, the Education department and other government stakeholders in the district.
• Work closely with DPOs, CDPOs, Supervisors, BRCs, CRCs and partner organisations.
• Facilitate review meetings and bring departments together around shared plans.
• Organise and support training for Anganwadi workers, teachers, mentors and government functionaries.
• Provide onsite mentoring and technical support to frontline staff.
• Conduct at least 15 field visits a month to Anganwadi centres and schools.
• Observe classroom practice, teacher facilitation and how children are learning, and give useful feedback.
• Maintain records of activities, field visits and learnings, and prepare monthly reports, case studies and success stories.
• Coordinate with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team on data collection and reporting.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Development Studies, Social Sciences or a related field.
• 5 to 7 years of experience in education or development programmes.
• Experience working with government systems, especially ICDS, School Education or ECCE programmes.
• Experience in teacher capacity building, mentoring or community-based programmes is valued.
• Ability to coordinate a programme across a whole district.
• Confidence engaging government officials at district and block level.
• Skill in training and mentoring frontline staff.
• Ability to coordinate a field team and support its learning.
• Strong monitoring, documentation and reporting practice.
• Clear writing for monthly reports and case studies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Problem-solving and relationship management.
• Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned district.
