Transform Rural India (TRI)

tri.jpeg Transform Rural India (TRI) works to strengthen grassroots governance and improve the lives of rural communities across India. Through The Voices Project, a collaboration with Stanford University and IIT Gandhinagar, TRI trains women Sarpanches to represent the needs of women citizens in local governance through Mahila Sabhas. The project works within the framework of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, which increased women's representation in local governance, and aims to help women move from holding positions to holding real power and authority in their communities.

Role

The District Programme Lead anchors and leads the training programme for women Sarpanches in select districts of Chhattisgarh. This role facilitates networks of women Sarpanches, supports them in conducting Mahila Sabhas, and helps them build the confidence and skills to exercise independent leadership in local governance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead training sessions using research-based curricula to strengthen women's agency and promote gender-inclusive governance
  • Mobilize women leaders and facilitate peer networks among women Sarpanches
  • Mentor women Sarpanches to navigate institutional challenges and build independent leadership
  • Engage with ongoing research connecting grassroots practice with academic study
  • Facilitate difficult conversations on gender norms and build confidence among women leaders

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or higher preferred
  • Around 30 years of age
  • 3 years of relevant work experience for graduates, or 2 years for postgraduates, including at least 3 months of rural exposure and experience living in rural settings
  • Demonstrated experience conducting training programmes or facilitating groups and learning events
  • Proficiency in English and Hindi, both spoken and written. Knowledge of local Chhattisgarh dialects is a strong advantage
  • Comfortable using digital tools and navigating government portals
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to lead group discussions with empathy and authority
  • Open only to women candidates, given the nature of the role working directly with women Sarpanches on gender equity

Benefits

  • Monthly emoluments of ₹83,000, covering field, travel and work-related expenses
  • Hands on, field-immersive experience in grassroots governance and gender equity work
  • Exposure to action research connecting grassroots practice with global academic institutions
  • Opportunity to work alongside Stanford University and IIT Gandhinagar on a nationally recognized program
  • Possibility of role extension based on performance
