With over three decades of work, NEWS combines research, documentation, community development, and policy engagement to drive conservation outcomes.

Role

A documentation and communication role covering conservation projects across Kolkata and Sundarban. The officer will create reports, case studies, and communication materials, manage NEWS's digital presence, and travel to field sites to capture stories through photography, videography, and interviews, using both traditional and AI-powered tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare project reports, case studies, success stories, newsletters, annual reports, and donor documentation
• Maintain an organized repository of photographs, videos, publications, and project documents
• Support documentation aligned with NEWS's MEAL framework
• Develop communication materials like brochures, posters, newsletters, blogs, and social media content
• Create visual content including photo stories, short films, reels, and presentations following NEWS branding guidelines
• Manage NEWS's social media platforms and website updates, including content calendars and engagement tracking
• Use AI tools for content generation, scheduling, SEO, and analytics
• Visit project sites to document field activities through photography, videography, and community interviews, ensuring proper captions, geo-tagging, and consent records
• Support project teams with donor reports, concept notes, presentations, and communication materials
• Cover organizational events, workshops, and trainings through photography, videography, and written reports
• Assist with press releases, media briefs, and media relations
• Document best practices and impact stories, and guide staff on documentation standards and AI-based communication tools

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Environmental Science, Life Science, Ecology, or a related field
• 3 to 5 years of experience in documentation, communication, media, or knowledge management, preferably in the development, NGO, or environmental sector
• Excellent writing and editing skills in English and Bengali
• Proficiency in MS Office, Canva, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, and basic video editing
• Familiarity with AI tools for content writing, transcription, image and video editing, report drafting, and data visualization
• Experience managing social media, website content, or digital campaigns is an advantage
• Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
• Willingness to travel extensively to project sites for field documentation
• Genuine interest in biodiversity conservation, environment, climate action, and community development
