Reap Benefit is a civic-tech non-profit on a mission to build skills and agency in young people so they can solve real climate and civic problems in their own communities. Through the Solve Ninja Movement, they activate young people to become first-mile changemakers people who take action on what they see around them every day. So far, they have activated over 1.2 lakh Solve Ninjas across 18 states, enabled more than one lakh civic actions, and partnered with five government bodies across four states. Their goal is to activate 10 million citizens by 2030 to reshape how communities participate in local governance and environmental action.
Role
Build open-source technology that empowers citizens and communities to take action on civic and environmental issues working on Reap Benefit's WhatsApp AI Mentor Bot, the Samaaja community platform, and the Changemaker Hub as part of an 18-month fellowship.
Responsibilities
- Co-develop and build modular features for the Changemaker Hub platform
- Help design and manage WhatsApp chatbots and AI interfaces that are easy, safe, and helpful for thousands of daily users
- Conduct code reviews, implement backend logic, and build APIs and webhooks for tool integrations across the platform
- Ensure data practices are safe, fair, and accessible especially for grassroots communities
- Work with AI tools to explore how technology can support multiple languages and encourage positive community behaviour
Requirements
- Recent graduate or final-year student with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent hands-on project portfolio
- Strong foundational skills in modern web technologies JavaScript/TypeScript and React on the frontend, Node.js or Python on the backend
- Familiarity with open-source contribution workflows
- Curious, self-driven learner who is comfortable using AI tools to write and debug code
- Values problem-solving logic and clarity of thinking over any specific tool or method
- Believes technology should be used to create positive change and help communities
