Ignator – Teacher in Tamil Nadu | Agastya International Foundation
Agastya International Foundation
Agastya International Foundation is a nonprofit that brings hands-on science learning to children and teachers in government schools, especially in rural areas. Its teams run science centres, camps and fairs where children learn by asking questions, trying things out and building things with their own hands. Agastya's goal is to spark curiosity, grow creativity and build confidence in children who might otherwise never see science come alive. It also works closely with parents and communities so learning carries on outside the classroom. This role sits within Agastya's teaching team in Tamil Nadu, which delivers daily science sessions in government schools and Agastya centres.

Role
As an Ignator, you will bring science to life for students in grades 6 to 10 through daily teaching, science fairs, community visits and camps. You will take two sessions a day of 120 to 140 minutes each, with classes of about 40 students, at government schools and Agastya facilities. Some programmes may also ask you to teach primary classes. Beyond the classroom, you will spend time with parents and the wider community, helping everyone around the children share in their curiosity and care.
Responsibilities
- Deliver daily interactive science sessions (120–140 mins) to classes of ~40 students in Grades 6 to 10 (and primary grades as required) adhering to Agastya standards.
- Organize and lead science fairs, community outreach visits, project-based learning, and seasonal/special student camps.
- Engage actively with parents, teachers, and school leadership after hours and on non-school working days to foster strong relationships.
- Maintain accurate departmental inventories, project documentation, reports, and physical facility assets.
- Research student and teacher inquiries to support continuous learning, inquiry-based education, and team collaboration.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science (B. Sc/M.Sc) along with a Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Education (B.Ed/D.Ed).
- Hands-on teaching experience with strong subject-matter expertise in fundamental science concepts.
- Proficiency in digital tools for teaching, presentation, and administrative reporting.
- High energy, excellent communication skills, discipline, and willingness to work late evenings or travel as program needs require.
Benefits
- Work directly with children and communities in government schools.
- Teach through hands-on activities, science fairs and camps rather than only textbooks.
- Grow as an educator within a team focused on curiosity and creativity.
