teesa (1).jpg This role supports an individual PhD research project at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar. The project studies disaster governance and community vulnerability in areas affected by the 2023 Teesta GLOF and flood, looking at the issue through a climate justice lens.

Role

A temporary, field based role to help a PhD researcher connect with local communities and gather ground level insights in flood affected areas of the Teesta River Basin.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Researcher in reaching field sites and local communities
  • Facilitate introductions with local residents and key informants
  • Help identify households and individuals affected by the GLOF or flood
  • Support in arranging meetings and interviews as needed

Requirements

  • No minimum educational qualification required. Graduate and postgraduate students in social sciences, disaster studies, climate change, environmental studies, geography, anthropology, or sociology are encouraged to apply
  • Preference for residents of Kalimpong or Darjeeling District, especially those familiar with Teesta Bazaar, Melli, and the surrounding area
  • Good knowledge of local communities, particularly those affected by the 2023 Teesta GLOF or flood
  • Strong communication skills with local residents
  • Reliable and available for the full duration of fieldwork
