Role
The Manager – Program Finance strengthens financial management, grant governance and compliance across themes and partner organizations. This role combines a strong understanding of NGO finance, grant operations, budgeting and institutional processes with close collaboration across program teams and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Conduct financial due diligence of prospective and existing partner NGOs before grant onboarding and renewal
- Evaluate partner accounting systems, internal controls, governance structures and financial management practices
- Assess compliance with Income Tax, FCRA and other statutory requirements, and review policies to identify financial, operational and governance risks
- Prepare and present structured due diligence reports for internal review committees and management decisions
- Review annual financial reports and supporting documents, and ensure timely fund disbursement to NGO partners as per agreed timelines
- Ensure grant funds are used properly and in line with grant terms, and keep the grant management portal updated with accurate information
- Manage the financial lifecycle of assigned grants through to closure
- Support partner organizations in strengthening their accounting systems through ongoing financial handholding and advisory support
- Work closely with grant leads, core accounts, legal and other internal teams for effective grant operations
- Respond to finance and compliance related queries from internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner
Requirements
- MBA in Finance, M. Com, ICWA or an equivalent qualification
- 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in NGO finance, grant management or program finance
- Strong understanding of NGO accounting and bookkeeping, grant budgeting and financial analysis, statutory compliances such as FCRA, Income Tax and CSR related requirements, and audit coordination and donor reporting
- Experience working with non-profits, foundations or development sector institutions
- Experience engaging with program teams, auditors, finance committees and partner organizations is preferred
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to simplify financial concepts for non-finance audiences
- High attention to detail, strong process orientation, and the ability to manage multiple grants and stakeholders at once
- Proficiency in MS Excel and financial reporting tools
- Willingness to travel extensively to field locations and partner organizations
- Collaborative, solution-oriented, and committed to strengthening institutional systems and governance in the social sector
