Watershed Organisation Trust - WOTR

WOTR began in 1993 out of the Indo-German Watershed Development Programme, where it pioneered bringing whole communities together to bring back the land they live on and save the rain that falls on it. Over 32 years the organisation has reached more than 8 million lives and now works across 8 states of India. WOTR treats the rural ecosystem as one connected whole, covering watershed and natural resource management, biodiversity and water, climate resilient farming, better livelihoods, women's empowerment, nutrition, health, drinking water and sanitation. It is recognised globally both as a non-profit that works on the ground and as a think tank. This role sits within WOTR's regional programme team in Chhattisgarh, which runs and reports on projects with villages across the region. image-750x-2021-09-08-06_47_50pm-6138b7fe74769.jpg

Role

The MIS Executive builds and looks after the information systems that keep WOTR's projects honest and visible. You will shape how field data is collected, check that it is accurate, and turn it into dashboards and reports that the regional team, donors and communities can act on. The work is part desk and part field, with regular travel to villages where the projects run.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of a full management information system, working with project teams and regional office members.
  • Develop and revise data collection methods so they match project goals and organisational aims.
  • Train and guide project team members in data collection so the information gathered is accurate and reliable.
  • Compile baseline data for every project component and every project indicator.
  • Support the building of an automated, connected information system and dashboard that turns raw data into a live visual picture of progress.
  • Collect data regularly on each agreed indicator, in consultation with donors, to measure progress against performance targets.
  • Run quality checks and corrective actions to keep data valid, reliable, precise and on time.
  • Maintain and update the MIS platform so monitoring and evaluation data is always ready to use.
  • Compile and analyse data to help the Regional Manager prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports, plus updates on progress, gaps and lessons for internal and external audiences.
  • Prepare briefing material on project performance and status for the Regional Manager.
  • Coordinate and carry out thematic assessments alongside the project management team.
  • Track and analyse progress, challenges and lessons learned as the work is delivered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Development Studies or Rural Development, or a post graduate diploma in Development Management.
  • At least 2 years of experience designing, developing or running data collection processes in the development sector.
  • At least 1 year of experience setting up and maintaining information and data management platforms.
  • Working knowledge of statistical and data tools such as MS Excel, Google Sheets and Looker Studio.
  • Ability to build dashboards that make project progress easy to read and act on.
  • Comfort with data quality checks, spotting errors and fixing them at the source.
  • Ability to train and guide field team members who collect the data.
  • Skill in writing clear reports and briefing notes for donors and senior staff.
  • Fluency in Hindi and English, both spoken and written.
  • Willingness to travel to rural project sites for 50 to 60 percent of each month.
  • Careful, organised way of working with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Ability to work closely with project teams, donors and the Regional Manager.

Benefits

  • Work with a globally recognised organisation that has reached over 8 million lives in 32 years.
  • See your data work turn directly into decisions that shape rural landscapes and livelihoods.
  • Regular field exposure to watershed, water, farming and community programmes.
  • Learning across a wide range of themes, from climate resilient agriculture to health and sanitation.
  • A collaborative team environment with guidance from the regional management.
