Program Consultant – TFIx | Teach For India
Teach For IndiaTeach For India
Teach For India works towards an India free of poverty, where every child gets an excellent education. Over fifteen years it has grown into a movement of around 5,000 Alumni working at every level of the education system, reaching 1 in 10 children in the country. Its two-year Fellowship places driven young people in under-resourced classrooms, and has already changed the path of about 33,500 children from low-income families. More than 16,000 Teach For India students have sat for their 10th grade board exams, with a 95% pass rate as of November 2024. This role sits within Teach For India's TFIx vertical, which runs a three-part incubation and entrepreneurship programme that has helped 70 education entrepreneurs reach over 6 lakh children through 57 Fellowship programmes.

Role
The TFIx Program Consultant works closely with a small group of education entrepreneurs and their programme teams to build strong, well-designed programmes that create real change for Fellows and students at scale. The work is hands-on: coaching Program Leads, strengthening the curriculum that Fellows and Program Managers learn from, and making data a normal part of how each site makes decisions. It asks for someone who can move comfortably between very different contexts, from tribal and rural Bihar to urban Tamil Nadu and marginalised urban neighbourhoods in Maharashtra.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and coach Program Leads at partner sites through an onboarding bootcamp, fortnightly one-on-one or group calls, and regular in-person visits.
- Build each site's understanding of data-driven decision making, including classroom observation, classroom data and documentation of teaching practice.
- Support Learning and Development Journey Check-ins so teams track growth in a consistent way.
- Guide site leadership teams as they manage and develop their own Program Managers while the sites grow.
- Give tailored support to each entrepreneur to strengthen their Fellowship programme in its own context.
- Review and strengthen the student curriculum, Fellow curriculum and Program Manager curriculum at each organisation.
- Shape each site's Alumni strategy in partnership with Program Leads and leadership teams.
- Support the design of in-house Transformational Impact Journeys suited to each site's context.
- Align each site's programme to Teach For India's core beliefs of joy and safety, student partnership, holistic narrative and transformational leadership.
- Lead on-ground trainings and capacity building so teams can bring that vision alive in classrooms.
- Open up relevant Teach For India spaces, such as the TFIx Program Manager Institute and Program Manager Induction, to staff and Fellows from these sites.
- Contribute to shared team goals and support organisational work in recruitment, selection, fundraising, volunteering and movement building.
Requirements
- 3 or more years of experience in programme design, programme management, or coaching and mentoring roles.
- Experience in the education or development sector, ideally in a frontline leadership role such as Program Manager or Program Leader.
- Two years of Teach For India Fellowship experience is preferred.
- Experience coaching and managing adults, including building team culture and giving honest feedback.
- Experience designing and facilitating sessions that build people's skills.
- Experience working closely with many different stakeholders at once.
- Comfort with using data to guide decisions, including classroom observation and programme data.
- Willingness to travel an average of 4 to 5 days a month.
- Comfort working across very different cultures and settings, including tribal and rural Bihar, urban and rural Tamil Nadu, and marginalised urban Maharashtra.
- Strong written and spoken communication.
- The engagement runs from September 2026 to 31 March 2027, with the possibility of renewal beyond that date by mutual agreement.
- Open to both full-time and part-time consultancy engagements.
- The role reports to the TFIx Director and directly supports TFIx entrepreneurs.
Benefits
- A place in one of the most established education movements in India, at a point when it is growing its reach across the country.
- A flexible workplace where each person's growth and leadership development is tracked and supported.
- A work culture that treats well-being as a core priority.
- Access to people and resources across the global Teach For All network, spanning more than 50 countries.
- Remuneration that is competitive within the top quartile of Indian NGO pay scales.
- A benefits package that includes extensive medical insurance and maternity coverage for both parents.
