Svatah works to improve the quality of teaching and learning in government schools in India. Its Shikshak program supports teachers inside their own classrooms, helping them build the skills and confidence to teach well every day. This role sits within SVATAH's Shikshak program team, which is rolling the program out across government schools in Mahbubnagar district, Telangana.

Role
The Program Fellow is the person on the ground in the district, making sure the Shikshak program actually works inside classrooms. You will spend most of your time visiting schools, watching lessons, talking with teachers about what is working and what is not, and helping headmasters take ownership of the program in their schools. You will also be SVATAH's regular point of contact with district and block education officials, carrying honest field information in both directions between schools and the wider program team.
Responsibilities
- Visit schools regularly across the district to support classroom delivery of the Shikshak program.
- Observe classroom sessions and give teachers clear, constructive feedback.
- Help teachers solve day to day implementation problems and improve their classroom practice.
- Engage headmasters and principals so schools take ownership of the program and follow through.
- Maintain regular contact with district and block education officials, including the District Collector, District Education Officer, Academic Monitoring Officer, and BEOs and MEOs.
- Support review meetings, field briefings, and follow-up actions with government stakeholders.
- Share field insights, progress updates, and implementation challenges with officials, working with the central team.
- Facilitate teacher training, refresher sessions, and orientation meetings, including their logistics.
- Administer program monitoring and evaluation tools such as surveys and assessments.
- Maintain program records, including visit notes, training reports, photographs, and field notes.
- Compile and submit regular field updates and reports to the program team.
- Support other organisational priorities beyond Shikshak, including special projects, pilots, and new initiatives.
Requirements
- 2 or more years of experience in the development sector is preferred.
- Strong written and spoken communication in English.
- Working knowledge of Telugu is preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a field-based role with little supervision.
- Strong people skills, with comfort in speaking to teachers, school leaders, and government officials.
- Proven ability to observe classroom teaching, give useful feedback, and facilitate sessions.
- Basic skill in collecting data, reporting, and keeping program records.
- Willingness to travel frequently to schools across the district.
- High ownership and accountability for your own work.
- A proactive, problem-solving approach.
- Comfort with the changing priorities of a fast-growing organisation.
