Program Officer – Pilot Design and Scale in Madhya Pradesh | Educate Girls
Educate Girls
Educate Girls works with communities and government school systems in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar so that children, especially girls, enroll in school, stay there and learn well. The work is carried out with Team Balika, a network of more than 55,000 community volunteers who go door to door in their own villages. So far the organisation has mobilised over 2.2 million out-of-school girls, and it aims to reach 10 million learners by 2035. In 2025 Educate Girls became the first organisation in India to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award. This role sits within Educate Girls' programme team in Dhar, which is launching a one-year pilot to close foundational gaps in middle-grade Maths and Science.

Role
As Program Officer you will build this pilot from the ground up. Weak foundations in Maths and Science are a major reason students lose interest and drop out, and girls are affected most. The pilot places dedicated facilitators alongside government school teachers to run activity-based, learner-centered classes. Your work is mainly programme and pedagogical design, joined with field operations, team management, evaluation and government relations, and it must produce the evidence, content and frameworks needed to take this model to more districts. You report to the Lead Program Consultant and the role calls for extensive field travel.
Responsibilities
- Lead the refinement of middle-grade Maths and Science instructional content.
- Design training modules for the facilitators who will teach in pilot schools.
- Update classroom monitoring tools so classroom practice can be observed and improved.
- Define the monitoring and evaluation indicators for the pilot.
- Design student assessment instruments, including portfolio frameworks.
- Analyse pilot data and use it to make mid-course corrections.
- Turn programme designs into field-ready materials teachers and facilitators can use.
- Manage the day-to-day rollout in pilot schools and solve field problems as they come up.
- Recruit, train and manage facilitators and field teams, building a coaching-focused work culture.
- Build relationships with district and state education officials to secure permissions and alignment.
- Work with government partners for long-term buy-in for the model.
- Codify learnings, toolkits and processes so the pilot is ready for multi-district expansion in Year 2.
Requirements
- Strong background in pedagogy, learning design, curriculum development or classroom-facing programme delivery.
- Experience with middle-grade Maths or Science teaching and learning is valued.
- Skill in creating teaching-learning materials for classroom use.
- Experience working with monitoring and evaluation frameworks and student assessment frameworks.
- Experience leading field-level teams.
- Ability to recruit, train and coach facilitators.
- Working proficiency in spoken and written Hindi is required.
- Comfort with the ambiguity of building a Year-1 pilot, where designs change as they meet real classrooms.
- Highly adaptable in the field.
- Skill in managing government stakeholders at district and state level.
- Willingness to travel extensively for field work.
- Based in or willing to relocate to Dhar in Madhya Pradesh.
- Open to candidates from any academic background; demonstrated field experience and practical pedagogical execution matter most.
Benefits
- Design a new programme model from the ground up, with your work shaping how it is taught.
- Work directly with government school systems and see classroom practice change.
- Learn across instructional design, evaluation, operations and government relations in one role.
- Be part of an organisation recognised with the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2025.
- Contribute to a model built to scale to many districts across India.
