Programme Officer – Counselling in Navi Mumbai | SNEHA

Navi Mumbai, Maharashtrafull-timeentry levelCompetitiveCloses 7 Oct

##SNEHA SNEHA works in Mumbai's urban informal settlements to improve the health of women, children and adolescents. It runs programmes on nutrition, maternal and newborn health, prevention of violence against women and children, and adolescent wellbeing, working alongside families, schools, communities and public health services. Its approach connects people to the public health system rather than replacing it, so that change lasts after a project ends. Teams work closely with government health facilities, municipal schools and community volunteers. This role sits within SNEHA's EHSAS – SAFAR project, which supports adolescent mental health across schools, communities and health facilities. sneha (1).jpeg

Role

As Programme Officer – Counselling, you will work directly with adolescents who are facing mental health difficulties. You will screen them, counsel them, and connect them to the right support. You will also build the confidence of the adults around them, running sessions for parents, teachers and school staff, and training non-specialist mental health workers so that help is available close to where young people live and study.

Responsibilities

  • Screen adolescents for mental health concerns and provide counselling support.
  • Support adolescents through appropriate interventions based on their needs.
  • Conduct psychoeducation sessions for parents, teachers and school staff.
  • Train Non-Specialist Mental Health Workers and support them in their day to day work.
  • Supervise counselling sessions carried out by team members and give constructive feedback.
  • Maintain accurate case records and assessment documentation.
  • Work with schools, communities and health facilities to reach adolescents who need support.
  • Support mental health interventions across all EHSAS project sites.
  • Travel regularly within Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to reach project locations.

Requirements

  • Post Graduate degree in Counselling or Clinical Psychology.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience preferred; freshers can also apply.
  • Fluency in English, Hindi and Marathi.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to speak simply and warmly with young people.
  • Strong counselling skills and comfort holding difficult conversations.
  • Genuine interest in adolescent mental health.
  • Ability to run group sessions with parents, teachers and school staff.
  • Ability to train and guide other team members.
  • Care and accuracy in keeping case records and documentation.
  • Willingness to travel within Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
  • Self-driven and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Flexible in adapting to the needs of schools, communities and health facilities.

Benefits

  • Work on adolescent mental health with an organisation that has served Mumbai's communities for over two decades.
  • Learn on the job from clinical and programme teams working across schools, communities and health facilities.
  • Build skills in training and supervision, not only direct counselling.
  • Open to freshers, so this can be a first step into public health and mental health work.
  • A collaborative team culture focused on the wellbeing of young people.
