IT for Change is a Bangalore-based nonprofit that works at the meeting point of technology and social change. The organisation conducts research, advocacy, and field projects across education, gender, internet governance, and development. A key part of their work involves bringing free and open-source software tools into classrooms and communities, helping teachers and institutions use technology in meaningful ways. They work with government and non-government partners across India and globally.
Role
Support teachers, teacher educators, and institutions in using free and open-source software tools for learning and teaching. This role combines hands-on technical support, training, and digital resource creation across schools and colleges in Karnataka and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Design and conduct technology training programmes for teachers and teacher educators, both in person and online, on the use of free and open-source software tools
- Visit schools and colleges regularly to support technology integration and help with hardware and software setup
- Train teachers and educators to create digital learning resources using mobile and computer-based tools
- Provide on call and in-person technical support to teachers and field resource teams
- Explore and use free and open-source tools for audio-visual creation and editing to support resource development
- Create and maintain digital content repositories for internal and external use
- Develop user manuals, video tutorials, and self-learning materials for digital tools
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot software including desktop publishing tools, audio and video editors, office suites, and operating systems
- Set up and maintain internet connections and local area networks at office and workshop locations
- Customise and test Linux-based operating systems based on project needs
- Support website updates on platforms including Drupal, WordPress, Moodle, and MediaWiki
Requirements
- Graduate in Computer Science, BCA, B.Sc., BE, B.Tech, or Diploma in a related field; other graduates with relevant skills are also welcome to apply
- 0 to 1 year of experience in technology training or technical support roles
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems, particularly Ubuntu or Debian-based distributions
- Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware
- Basic understanding of LAN and WAN networking
- Familiarity with web content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal, Moodle, or MediaWiki
- Basic command-line skills in Linux
- Fluency in English and Kannada, both reading and writing; basic spoken Hindi is a plus
- Willingness to travel across Karnataka and other parts of India as needed
- Interest in using technology to support teaching and learning in schools and colleges
- Prior experience or interest in EdTech projects in school education is an added advantage
