Railway Children India is a child rights organisation working to protect vulnerable children through community-based child protection, family strengthening and education initiatives. The organisation partners with government agencies, railway authorities and local communities to ensure children living in difficult circumstances receive protection, care and opportunities to thrive.

Role

Railway Children India is hiring a Project Lead in Dadar, Mumbai. This full-time, field-based role leads the implementation of child protection programmes across transport terminals by managing field teams, coordinating with government stakeholders and ensuring high-quality programme delivery. The role involves regular travel across project locations in Maharashtra while overseeing programme implementation, compliance, case management and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of child protection programmes across transport terminals.
  • Develop monthly and quarterly programme plans aligned with project goals and donor requirements.
  • Manage programme budgets and ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
  • Supervise outreach teams and ensure effective programme delivery.
  • Coordinate with government departments, railway authorities and partner organisations.
  • Conduct capacity-building and sensitisation programmes for stakeholders.
  • Oversee child protection case management and rehabilitation processes.
  • Ensure Individual Care Plans (ICPs) are developed and monitored.
  • Monitor programme data and prepare narrative and financial reports.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and update MIS systems.
  • Lead programme reviews, monitoring visits and quality assurance processes.
  • Represent Railway Children India at meetings, workshops and stakeholder forums.
  • Ensure compliance with child safeguarding policies and organisational standards.
  • Mentor and build the capacity of programme staff.
  • Support fundraising initiatives, donor visits and proposal development.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree in Social Work, Sociology or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 yr of experience in child protection or related development programmes.
  • At least 2 yr of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience working directly with children.
  • Strong understanding of child protection systems, the Juvenile Justice Act and government mechanisms.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and mentoring skills.
  • Strong report writing, documentation and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and digital data management tools.
  • Fluency in Marathi and English.
  • Willingness to work six days a week and undertake regular field travel.
