Resident Mentor in Bengaluru | Azim Premji University
Azim Premji University
Azim Premji University runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that bring together classroom learning, learning outside the curriculum, and the overall well-being of students. The university believes students grow best when they form real relationships with each other and with faculty and staff. Its campus brings together students from many different backgrounds, and it works to make that community open, caring and inclusive. This role sits within the university's Resident Mentor team, which keeps residential life lively and helps students build meaningful connections outside academics.
Role
As a Resident Mentor, you will live in the student residences on the Bengaluru campus and be an active, caring presence in students' daily lives. The role is built on positive engagement and an ethic of care, so you will reach out to students before problems arise, not only respond when they do. You will look after the basics students need, from food and safety to health and fitness, and create chances for them to learn and grow together. This is a dual role, taken on alongside another academic or administrative role at the university.
Responsibilities
- Live at the student residences on campus as a full-time resident.
- Coordinate and supervise basic facilities for students, including buildings, food and nutrition, health and fitness, and safety.
- Use everyday facility matters as chances to help students understand the realities of life.
- Take part in and lead initiatives that bring together students, faculty and staff.
- Engage with students proactively and build strong, trusting relationships.
- Create structured and informal opportunities for students to learn and grow outside the classroom.
- Support students through academic and non-academic roles within the university.
- Help respond to emergencies on campus and coordinate with other teams.
- Carry out an added academic or administrative role alongside resident mentoring.
Requirements
- 2 or more years of work experience.
- Willingness to live full-time in the student residences on campus.
- Experience living with or working closely with young adults, or a strong interest in doing so.
- Experience coordinating or managing residences for students aged 17 to 26, or a strong interest in this work.
- Good communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Proficiency in MS Excel.
- Training or experience in counselling or mentoring students is an added advantage.
- The university is ideally looking for candidates in the 25 to 35 age group.
- Female candidates are encouraged to apply for the Bengaluru campus.
Benefits
- Accommodation provided at the student residences on campus.
- A chance to shape student life and well-being at a leading university.
- Work alongside students, faculty and staff in a diverse, inclusive campus community.
- Hands-on experience across student care, operations and community building.
