Tattle is a civic tech organisation that builds open-source tools to understand and respond to misinformation in India. The team works at the intersection of technology and society, using machine learning, data analysis, and web tools to support fact-checking efforts and counter harmful content online.

Role

Support Tattle's engineering team in building and maintaining tools that help detect misinformation, classify multilingual content, and improve fact-checking workflows. This is an entry-level role suited for someone eager to learn and grow on the job. This role begins with a three-month contract and may move to a long-term retainer structure.

Responsibilities

  • Support the engineering team with data analysis tasks
  • Assist with front-end application development
  • Work on multilingual and multimedia content classification projects
  • Contribute to web scraping tools for chat apps and social media platforms
  • Help build and maintain real-time multiplayer games used for civic engagement
  • Improve the efficiency of fact-checking workflows

Requirements

  • 0 to 1 year of experience in software engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with Elixir, JavaScript, and Python
  • Experience or exposure to data analysis tools such as Jupyter, Pandas, and Excel
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS services including EKS, EC2, S3, RDS (Postgres), Route53, and CloudFront
  • Comfortable using GitHub Actions for workflow automation
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills quickly on the job
  • Genuine interest in how technology shapes social processes
  • Alignment with Tattle's mission to combat misinformation
