The team works on climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, governance, public finance, health, gender inclusion, and access to justice. Over the last ten years, CivicDataLab has built open data and civic-tech tools that help improve transparency and accountability across India and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Role

CivicDataLab is looking for a State Lead to build partnerships and grow its presence in Kerala. This person will represent the organization in the state, working with government departments, universities, civil society groups, and funders. The role focuses mainly on climate action and coastal and ocean resilience work, while also supporting other public-interest programs.

Responsibilities

  • Represent CivicDataLab as the main point of contact in Kerala
  • Build long-term relationships with government departments, universities, research institutions, civil society groups, and funders
  • Find and develop partnership opportunities in climate resilience, coastal and ocean resilience, disaster risk reduction, public finance, and governance
  • Represent CivicDataLab at consultations, conferences, and policy discussions
  • Support proposal writing, stakeholder outreach, and partnership strategy
  • Track developments in climate, governance, and public policy that are relevant to the organization's work
  • Coordinate with government stakeholders, researchers, and internal teams on joint projects
  • Help plan, run, and monitor coastal resilience and other cross-cutting projects
  • Track project deadlines, risks, and stakeholder commitments
  • Support local institutions in using data and public-interest technology more effectively

Requirements

  • Postgraduate degree in Public Policy, Development Studies, Climate Studies, Social Sciences, Disaster Risk Reduction, or a related field is preferred
  • 8 or more years of experience in climate action, coastal resilience, public policy, sustainability, or related work
  • Experience working with government departments, funders, academic institutions, and civil society groups
  • Experience with government procurement, tendering, and proposal development
  • Strong relationship-building and partnership skills
  • Comfortable working across climate, governance, disaster risk, and data-related topics
  • Experience managing projects with many stakeholders, including planning and coordination
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with senior government officials
  • Able to work well with teams from different backgrounds, including research, policy, data, and design
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working with unclear or changing situations
