Community Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA)

Community Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) is a registered non-profit organization formally established on 30th December 2004. It operates primarily in Delhi/NCR and Uttar Pradesh (covering areas in and around Agra and Prayagraj), working across slum and resettlement colonies, semi-urban areas, and metro communities.
CFCA's work is built around a single, practical idea: long-term one-to-one sponsorship. Instead of one-time relief, CFCA connects individual sponsors to specific families, providing continuous support over several years so families can gradually build self-sufficiency. The program is called "Hope for a Family."
What CFCA Does
- Sponsorship Program (Hope for a Family): Each sponsored child receives direct benefits transferred to their personal bank account, including school and tuition fees, books, stationery, uniforms, nutrition and medical checkups, sports and recreational activities, and educational trips. Mothers of sponsored children are treated as the program's core agents of change, and the program actively builds their confidence and decision-making ability.
- Remedial Education: CFCA runs remedial education centres offering activity-based, curriculum-aligned classes for children who are falling behind in school. Classes use audiovisual tools and a community-based library. An evaluation conducted in 2019–20 found that remedial students showed measurable improvements in academic performance, attendance consistency, and attitude towards education. Illiterate mothers also reported greater awareness and involvement in their children's schooling as a result.
- Livelihood & Skill Development: CFCA supports mothers in developing income-generating activities to achieve financial self-sufficiency. Trainings are conducted in partnership with government bodies including the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC/MSME) and the Directorate of Training, Government of Delhi. Skills covered include food processing (pickle, jam, sauce, murrabba), pottery making, jewellery making, candle and incense stick making, and running small masala units. Mothers receive government-recognized certificates that give them access to loans, subsidies, and market linkages.
- Government Interface: CFCA actively liaises with national and state government institutions to connect families with welfare schemes and entitlements. Government officials regularly visit CFCA's field centres to train and inform sponsored mothers.
- Summer Camps & Community Activities : CFCA organizes summer camps, annual celebrations, Women's Day events, Republic Day celebrations, and other community activities that foster a culture of learning, mutual respect, and belonging.
CFCA's work is guided by nine principles: dignity of the person, integrity and accountability, respectful relationships, mutual accountability, decentralized decision-making, economic self-sufficiency, sustainability, empowerment, and a culture of continuous learning. The community is trained to gradually self-manage program aspects with CFCA staff serving as support resources not permanent intermediaries.
CFCA welcomes volunteers, interns, and professionals who want to work with children, families, and marginalized communities in Delhi/NCR and UP.
