SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action)

SNEHA is a Mumbai-based non-profit working to improve the health, nutrition, and safety of women and children in urban informal settlements. For over two decades, SNEHA has worked at the grassroots level to reduce maternal and child mortality, malnutrition, adolescent anaemia, and gender-based violence. Role

The Community Organiser will work on the ground in Dharavi under SNEHA's Aahar Sahyog programme, which supports maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition across 13,000 households. This is a field-based role focused on home visits, community health support, volunteer engagement, and daily documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular home visits to children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and married women of reproductive age; carry out child growth measurements (anthropometry) with Anganwadi workers.
  • Identify malnourished children, pregnant women needing early registration, and cases of domestic violence; ensure timely referrals and follow-up for health services.
  • Counsel parents, women, and families on child health, nutrition, maternal health, family planning, and the health services available to them.
  • Coordinate with Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) for joint home visits, immunization sessions, health events, and take-home ration distribution.
  • Identify and support community volunteers; form and manage Community Action Groups (CAGs); ensure volunteers participate in monthly meetings, trainings, and community activities.
  • Maintain daily records on the CommCare data platform, prepare monthly case stories, and keep updated data on beneficiary activities and volunteer work.

Requirements

  • Minimum SSC (Class 10) pass.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in the social sector, preferably in maternal and child health, health, or nutrition in Dharavi. At least 1 year of relevant work experience required.
  • Freshers with significant volunteer experience in the same field are welcome to apply.
  • Good communication skills in Marathi and Hindi.
  • Committed to gender equality and women's rights; empathetic, non-judgmental, and trustworthy in approach.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation.
