About

Swasti (meaning "wellbeing" in Sanskrit) is a public health organisation based in Bangalore, working across India and 28 countries in South Asia, South East Asia, and parts of East Africa. Now completing 20 years of work, Swasti describes itself as a "health catalyst," bringing together communities, policymakers, and healthcare providers to build resilient, people-centred health systems for vulnerable and marginalised populations.

Swasti's approach centres on activating the agency of vulnerable communities themselves, training and empowering local health workers, and working the "Policy-Practise-Policy" loop with governments, bilateral and multilateral agencies, foundations, academic institutions, and corporate partners.

Major Initiatives & Programmes

100 Million Healthy Days: Swasti's flagship mission, aiming to add 100 million (with an extended goal of 1 billion) healthy days, days when vulnerable individuals can engage in self-care, work, and happiness despite health challenges, to marginalised communities by 2030.

#COVIDActionCollab: Swasti's pandemic-era collective response effort, coordinating relief and health support during COVID-19.

Centres of Strategic Excellence: A dedicated platform (centres.swasti.org) housing Swasti's deeper technical and research work.

Playbooks: Practical field guides including the Community Led Monitoring Playbook, Environmental Surveillance for COVID-19, COVID-19 Vaccination playbook, and Self-Testing playbooks for factories and communities.

Knowledgebase & Research: Regular publications spanning evidence and research studies, think pieces, tools and guidelines, including recent work on heatwave advisories, climate action, and menstrual health.

Impact

  • 20 years of continuous public health work, with leadership highlighting 15+ years of documented impact
  • Active presence and partnerships across 28 countries in South Asia, South East Asia, and East Africa
  • Long-standing contributions to India's National AIDS Control Programme, cited by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
  • Trusted by global partners including Walmart Foundation for workplace health and gender-inclusion programs in factories
  • Working mission target: 100 million (extended to 1 billion) healthy days for vulnerable populations by 2030

Swasti gives people a chance to work on public health at real scale, across countries and issue areas, without losing the community-first, ground-level orientation that defines its approach. It suits people who want technical rigor (research, evidence, playbooks) paired with deep field experience, and who want to see their work influence actual policy, not just program delivery. With two decades of credibility behind it and partnerships spanning governments, UN agencies, and global corporates, Swasti offers a platform where public health careers can grow in both depth and geographic breadth.

Swasti suits people drawn to public health and community systems work who want to operate at the intersection of grassroots implementation and policy-level influence, ideally with an interest in health equity, gender, or climate resilience.
