The Apprentice Project

The Apprentice Project (TAP) helps children in government schools build the life skills they need to do well, like emotional intelligence, digital literacy, creativity and managing money. In India, around 100 million children from low-income communities grow up without these skills, which limits their chances and keeps families stuck in poverty. TAP helps students learn through hands-on projects, technology and personal learning, including an AI-powered learning buddy called TAP Buddy. It works with state governments to build this approach into their school systems, with the goal of reaching 10 million children by 2030. This role sits within TAP's Government Partnerships team, which works with states so the programme becomes part of how they run education.

Role

As Associate Director for North India, you will help state governments take on TAP's approach as their own. You will build trust with senior education officials, shape how the programme fits into state plans, curriculum and teacher training, and lead the state teams who make sure promises turn into real results in schools. You will report to the Director, Government Partnerships, and travel across the northern states you are responsible for.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with senior state officials, such as Principal Secretaries and Directors of education, and find ways to make TAP part of state education priorities.
  • Lead discussions and negotiations with government departments to move from early talks to formal adoption of TAP in state programmes, policies and systems.
  • Identify and support government champions who will speak up for TAP and push for its use within their departments.
  • Partner with education departments and TAP's internal teams to fit the programme into existing curriculum, teacher training and school practices, while keeping its core approach.
  • Design implementation plans, roles and review systems with departments, and help them solve problems and meet targets for school onboarding, student use of TAP Buddy, engagement and project completion.
  • Turn organisational goals into state-level strategies, targets and plans across North India, and review state progress to close gaps quickly.
  • Hire, mentor and lead State Leads and their teams, with clear ownership and accountability for results.
  • Coordinate with the Programme, Product, Technology, Curriculum, Fundraising and monitoring and evaluation teams to match budgets, people and solutions to what each state needs.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in government partnerships, education, or large-scale social impact programmes.
  • Experience leading government partnerships in at least one or two states, with a record of turning senior officials into champions who help a programme get adopted.
  • Experience working with state governments to bring a programme into their education priorities, systems or curriculum.
  • Experience hiring, developing and leading teams across several locations, and holding people accountable for results.
  • Strong strategic thinking along with hands-on delivery, and the ability to move easily between senior-level meetings and work on the ground.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the assigned states in North India.
  • Founders or founding team members who have built an organisation or programme and managed work across several states or regions are equally welcome to apply.

Benefits

  • Help shape how state education systems build life skills for millions of children.
  • Work closely with the Director, Government Partnerships and with senior government decision-makers.
  • Hire and grow your own state teams across North India.
  • Help build a lasting programme that governments own, fund and expand.
  • Compensation of ₹22 LPA onwards, based on experience and fit.
