TNS India Foundation

tns-img-26-1.jpg TNS India Foundation is a non-profit development organisation with more than 13 years of work in youth employability and national economic development, with a special focus on women. It runs programmes that are built around what employers actually ask for, so that young people leave college with skills that lead to real jobs. By connecting capable young people to opportunities they would not otherwise reach, TNSIF has changed the lives of students, their families and their communities. Its work reaches colleges across many districts, including Tier 3 and Tier 4 institutions where career guidance is hardest to find. This role sits within TNSIF's youth employability programme team, which prepares college students for the move from campus to formal-sector employment.

Role

The Career Counsellor works directly with college students, one at a time and in groups, to help them understand their own strengths and choose a career path they can reach. The work is part guidance and part preparation: listening to what a student wants, being honest about what is needed to get there, and then walking them through resumes, interviews and workplace readiness. It also means being present on campus, building trust with faculty and parents, and keeping students engaged through the full length of the programme.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one on one career counselling and mentorship to students based on their interests, skills and goals.
  • Conduct group guidance sessions on careers and employability opportunities.
  • Assess and screen students through structured interactions and interviews to understand their suitability and development needs.
  • Support students with career planning, job readiness, interview preparation and resume guidance.
  • Identify each student's strengths, challenges and areas for improvement, and give guidance or referrals that fit.
  • Mobilise and engage students so they take an active part in employability programmes and placement activities.
  • Conduct pre-placement counselling and prepare students for formal-sector job opportunities.
  • Engage with parents, college faculty and administrators to keep student participation strong.
  • Travel to partner colleges, including Tier 3 and Tier 4 institutions, for counselling and programme activities.
  • Maintain accurate student records, counselling notes, reports and programme trackers.
  • Document student success stories, case studies and programme updates.
  • Work closely with the training and programme teams so students get consistent support through the whole programme.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Open to both freshers and experienced candidates
  • Prior experience in counselling, mentoring, training, or student engagement preferred
  • Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong listening, counselling, and public speaking abilities
  • Comfortable working with students from different backgrounds
  • Willingness to travel regularly to partner colleges
  • Good organizational and documentation skills
  • Empathetic, adaptable, and motivated to create impact

Benefits

  • Direct, visible impact: you see students you counselled move into their first formal job.
  • Work across a wide range of colleges, including institutions that rarely get career support.
  • Learn from training and programme teams inside an established youth employability organisation.
  • An employer committed to equal employment opportunity and a diverse, respectful and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued.
