This role sits within UNICEF's Child Protection programme in the field office, which designs, delivers and monitors programmes that protect children from violence, abuse and exploitation.

Role

The Child Protection Specialist reports to the Chief of Field Office and leads the development, management, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of child protection programmes within the country programme. The role carries a strong focus on upstream work: policy advocacy, strengthening the systems that protect children, and building strategic partnerships. It applies UNICEF's 3Cs approach for Every Child, Convene, Converge and Catalyze, to achieve lasting improvements in child protection. This is a National Officer post, which calls for local knowledge, established networks and the ability to work effectively with government partners.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and development of child protection programmes
  • Manage and monitor programme delivery to achieve results
  • Provide technical and operational support during implementation
  • Build and maintain partnerships with government and other stakeholders
  • Support innovation, knowledge sharing, and capacity building
  • Lead policy advocacy and help strengthen child protection systems

Requirements

  • An advanced university degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas.
  • Working knowledge of child protection programming.
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation and social development planning.
  • Proven ability in partnership building and stakeholder engagement.
  • Fluency in English. Open to Indian nationals only.
  • Experience in strategic partnership building, innovation and learning is an advantage.
  • Experience working in a developing country is an asset.
  • Experience in programme development in child protection related areas within a UN agency or organisation is an asset.
  • Experience across both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • Ability to build partnerships, think and act strategically, manage ambiguity and complexity, and lead and manage people.
