In India, its Gujarat field office works with the state government, communities and partners on health, nutrition, education, child protection, climate action, gender equality and youth participation. The office brings people together, links programmes across departments and pushes for public attention and action on issues that affect children and young people. This role sits within UNICEF Gujarat's communication, advocacy and partnership team, which works with government, media, civil society, young people and private sector partners to move child rights priorities forward in the state.
Role
UNICEF Gujarat is looking for a consultant to give focused, time-bound support in communication, advocacy and partnerships. You will create a set of communication, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and documentation products that help more people hear about child rights issues in Gujarat, and help turn programme evidence and field stories into action by decision makers and partners. This is a 15-month consultancy based out of Gandhinagar, mostly remote, with travel within the state.
Responsibilities
- Develop communication and advocacy products such as briefs, reports, campaign materials and social media packages on child rights priorities
- Write human-interest stories and field documentation that show the impact of UNICEF-supported work in Gujarat
- Engage government departments, legislators, media, civil society, youth platforms, academia and digital influencers on key issues for children
- Map stakeholders, media contacts and influencers, and build and maintain a media database
- Analyse partnership opportunities with CSR and private sector actors, and support outreach for financial and non-financial resources
- Turn programme evidence, field insights and state priorities into clear advocacy and communication plans
- Coordinate with UNICEF programme sections and partners to support joint action across departments
- Support public conversation and policy attention on health, nutrition, education, child protection, climate and youth engagement
- Plan and share content across digital and social media platforms
- Deliver agreed outputs with good quality and within set timelines
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Communications, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Relations or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in strategic communication, advocacy, media engagement, development communication or public relations
- Experience creating communication and advocacy products for government, development organisations, UN agencies, NGOs or similar institutions
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development
- Experience writing human-interest stories, social media content and documentation products
- Good knowledge of advocacy, media engagement and social and behaviour change communication
- Skills in stakeholder mapping, partnership analysis, media database building, influencer mapping and CSR or private sector engagement
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills
- Strong coordination, people and analytical skills, with the ability to work with many stakeholders at once
- Good use of MS Office, digital and social media platforms, content planning tools and basic data management
- Fluency in English and Hindi & Open to Indian nationals only
- Experience with UNICEF, UN agencies, government or civil society, or with state-level media, youth platforms and CSR partners in Gujarat, is a plus
