Shakti Shalini

sa (1).jpeg Shakti Shalini is a Delhi-based NGO founded in 1987. It works to end sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), gender discrimination and inequality. It supports survivors, mobilises communities, runs skilling and youth mentorship programmes, and reaches people online. This role sits within Shakti Shalini's Prevention of SGBV Program, whose Community Outreach Project works directly in five low-income communities in and around Nehru Nagar, Ashram Chowk in South-East Delhi.

Role

As Community Outreach Worker for Men and Boys, you will be a frontline, grassroots worker who meets men and boys in these five communities every day. You will build trust with them, help them question patriarchy and harmful gender norms, and help them understand the many forms of gender and sexual violence. You will help set up protection committees for men and for adolescent boys in each community, led by the residents themselves. The goal is for men and boys to rethink their own ideas of masculinity and become lasting champions of gender equality where they live. This role is open to men only. You will report to the Co-Coordinator, Community Outreach for Men and Boys.

Responsibilities

  • Visit the communities every day for door-to-door outreach with men and boys, their families and their friends.
  • Build trust and rapport in creative ways, such as through games and activities the men and boys enjoy.
  • Identify men and boys who show leadership and a commitment to gender equality, and form protection committees with them in each community.
  • Plan and run regular committee meetings based on the needs, interests and priorities of the men and boys.
  • Lead open conversations on masculinity, gender, sex, sexuality, violence, abuse, health, safety and rights.
  • Train interested men and boys to respond to and prevent gender and sexual violence in their own communities.
  • Find and share resources that help men and boys prevent violence, live healthier lives and access services they need.
  • Identify health, legal and safety needs in the communities and plan responses with the Shakti Shalini team.
  • Encourage men and boys to join legal awareness, health and gender sensitisation camps and workshops.
  • Connect male survivors of gender or sexual violence with Shakti Shalini's survivor support services, with strict confidentiality and respect.
  • Document and report all activities, and carry out quarterly monitoring and evaluation using the organisation's formats.
  • Coordinate closely with the Community Outreach Team and wider organisation, follow its protocols and ethics, and take part in organisation-wide meetings and events.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree, preferably in Social Work or a related subject.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the social sector, preferably in community-based or gender-based work.
  • Good Hindi reading, writing and speaking skills.
  • Basic English communication skills.
  • A commitment to gender equality and to ending gender and sexual violence at the grassroots.
  • An understanding of why men and boys must be part of the work for gender equality.
  • Patience and flexibility when working with the challenges of marginalised communities.
  • Ability to work with people of different ages, religions, castes, tribes and education levels.
  • Ability to do daily field work with very limited resources and in extreme weather.
  • A non-judgmental, caring and respectful approach to everyone you work with.
  • Strong people skills to build and keep relationships of trust.
  • Willingness to work five days a week, eight hours a day, with flexible days and hours based on field needs.

Benefits

  • Monthly pay of ₹23,000 during a six-month probation period.
  • Monthly pay of ₹25,000 on permanent employment after a performance review.
  • Annual pay increases built in.
  • Direct, meaningful work creating change on gender equality in Delhi communities.
  • Work alongside an experienced organisation with nearly four decades in the field.
