Dream a Dream
Dream a Dream is a non-profit working to change how education feels for the more than 130 million children growing up in poverty in India. Since 1999, it has made life skills a central part of learning, so that children can get through hard times and learn to thrive. It does this through its own programmes, new ways of teaching and assessing children, and by changing how people think about what education is for. Today its work spans 7 states and reaches over 3.6 million children through partnerships with state governments, other non-profits and funders. This role sits within Dream a Dream's South Hub, which focuses on systems demonstrations, showing how life skills can become part of everyday practice in state education systems.
Role
As Associate Lead, Partnerships for Telangana, you will lead Dream a Dream's work in the state and help life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) become a normal part of how government schools and institutions work. The focus is not on growing programmes. It is on helping the system understand this work, own it and keep it going. You will build trusted relationships with Samagra Shiksha, SCERT, DIETs, KGBV schools and the Women Development and Child Welfare Department, guide a local team with steadiness and care, and turn what you learn on the ground into practices and stories that last. This is a full-time consultant position reporting to the Program Lead.
Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of life skills and SEL into existing government structures, including SCERT, Samagra Shiksha, DIETs, KGBV schools and the Women Development and Child Welfare Department.
- Strengthen follow-up routines and processes so that practices last beyond one-off sessions, and spot the places in the system where small changes can make a big difference.
- Build and keep trusting relationships with state, district and institution leaders, working with them through conversation and joint planning rather than instructions.
- Support teachers, DIET faculty, administrators and policymakers with hands-on learning experiences, so they move from taking part in sessions to running and adapting these practices on their own.
- Align different levels of the system around a shared purpose, and stay steady through changes in leadership and priorities.
- Shape a story of thriving for Telangana's education system using field evidence, case studies and the voices of teachers, young people and officials, and create spaces where stakeholders can reflect together.
- Gather insights from the field through monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), find patterns, and use them to guide planning, decisions and South Hub strategy.
- Guide the South Hub Telangana team with clarity and care, hold regular spaces for reflection and learning, and help team members build their facilitation skills and their understanding of the system.
Requirements
- A background in public policy, social sciences, education or a related field.
- At least 5 years in leadership roles in education or non-profits, including managing complex programmes and strategic partnerships.
- A proven track record of working with government bodies and education stakeholders, with experience in education policy, SEL or life skills programmes highly desirable.
- Fluency in English and Telugu, with other regional languages a plus.
- Strong writing and documentation skills, and an understanding of MEL as a way to make sense of change, including spotting simple signs of shifts in mindset, behaviour and ownership.
- Strong systems thinking, planning and follow-through, with the ability to manage several pieces of work at once and stay grounded when things are unclear.
- Comfort with MS Office and a willingness to learn simple data tracking tools, with Canva or Adobe skills an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel across Telangana as needed.
Benefits
- Annual pay of ₹12,48,000.
- A chance to shape how Telangana's public education system helps children thrive, working closely with state and district leaders.
- A team culture built on trust, dignity and inclusion, with regular time for reflection and learning.
- Learning from other states through Dream a Dream's South Hub.
- An inclusive workplace that welcomes people from underrepresented groups.
