Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action (SNEHA)

sneha3--1--1_o.jpeg SNEHA is a Mumbai-based non-profit working to improve the health, nutrition and safety of women and children living in vulnerable urban communities. It works alongside families in those communities rather than around them, so that change is owned locally and lasts. SNEHA also partners with public systems, including health services and frontline workers, so that improvements reach far more people than any single organisation could serve on its own. This work runs across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This role sits within SNEHA's finance function, which tracks how project money is planned, spent and reported back to the funders who make the work possible.

Role

SNEHA is looking for a Consultant Finance Coordinator for budget monitoring. You will keep a close watch on how project budgets are being used, check that payments and entries are correct and properly recorded, and keep finance processes and compliance running smoothly. You will work with the finance team, programme teams and domain teams, and report to the Finance Consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project budgets against actual expenses and track utilisation through the year.
  • Review and authorise payment vouchers before they are processed.
  • Check and authorise Tally entries so the books stay accurate.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly reconciliations.
  • Track expenses across projects and flag gaps or overspends early.
  • Support funder audits with the financial documents and explanations auditors ask for.
  • Maintain financial documentation and keep compliance requirements met.
  • Manage cost-code mapping so spending is booked to the right project.
  • Handle salary and consultant cost allocations across projects.
  • Process and verify reimbursements.
  • Coordinate with finance, programme and domain teams on budget questions.
  • Support financial reporting and the reporting requirements set by donors.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree with 5 or more years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 10 or more years of experience.
  • The degree should be in Commerce or Financial Management.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts or finance.
  • A good understanding of accounting principles and day to day bookkeeping.
  • A good understanding of budgeting and how budgets are monitored against spending.
  • A good understanding of financial compliance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of Tally Prime and MS Excel
  • Good understanding of accounting, budgeting, reconciliation and financial compliance
  • Strong attention to detail, coordination and communication skills
  • Prior experience in the non profit sector is desirable

Benefits

  • A defined 6-month consultancy engagement.
  • Direct reporting to the Finance Consultant, with close working contact across finance, programme and domain teams.
  • Exposure to donor-funded project finance, funder audits and compliance in the development sector.
