Role
The Counsellor will provide screening and counselling services on various diseases and social welfare schemes as part of Plan India's Truckers Wellness Project, both at the project site and during outreach activities like health camps and awareness drives. This role also supports the Site In Charge in monthly planning of programme activities, working directly with truckers and allied populations to improve their health and overall wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Conduct health check ups and screenings for STIs, HIV and other diseases, and assist the medical practitioner with clinical services
- Conduct individual, group, and family counselling sessions for people affected by or at risk of HIV/AIDS, TB, STI, Hepatitis and other lifestyle disorders, and provide mental health screening and referrals
- Develop and deliver training and awareness sessions for beneficiaries on health topics, social welfare schemes and financial planning
- Implement prevention strategies, including safe sex practices and condom distribution, and lead outreach and awareness campaigns among truckers and allied populations
- Carry out disease screening and testing, and refer individuals to appropriate healthcare services while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards
- Build trust with the community and collaborate with truckers' associations, truck owners and other stakeholders to strengthen programme impact
- Maintain accurate records of counselling and outreach activities, and submit regular reports to the Site In Charge
- Work with healthcare professionals, NGOs, government agencies and community organizations on HIV/AIDS, TB, STI, Hepatitis and lifestyle disorder prevention
- Participate in ongoing training to build counselling and clinical skills, and support project office management as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work or a related field
- 2 years of relevant work experience
- Past counselling experience on health topics, or a good understanding of national health policies and social welfare schemes, is an advantage
- An open and unbiased approach to working with at risk communities such as truckers and allied populations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity and empathy when working with individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, TB or other medical conditions
- Ability to work well in small, multidisciplinary teams with a flexible approach
- Proficiency in data recording, report writing and case study compilation
