Role
The Education Specialist will support the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of UNICEF's education programme in India, with a strong focus on improving learning outcomes and advancing equitable, inclusive education for the most disadvantaged children. The role involves working closely with government and partners to strengthen education systems, turn evidence into policy dialogue, and build strategic partnerships for sustainable results at scale. This position is open only to nationals of India and reports to the Chief of Field Office, with technical guidance from the Chief of Education in the India Country Office.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and planning of UNICEF's education programme.
- Manage, monitor, and deliver programme results.
- Provide technical and operational support for programme implementation.
- Build and manage networks and partnerships with government and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to innovation, knowledge management, and capacity building within the education programme.
- Translate education evidence into policy dialogue, advocacy, and knowledge products for government and partners.
- Draft high quality analytical papers, policy briefs, programme documents, reports, and donor proposals.
- Advocate for education priorities with senior levels of government.
- Work on convergent approaches linking education with sectors such as social policy, child protection, nutrition, health, and WASH.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Education, Economics, Psychology, or another relevant field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in education planning, management, or research using results based management approaches.
- Experience translating education evidence into policy dialogue, advocacy, and knowledge products for governments and partners.
- Proven experience drafting analytical papers, policy briefs, programme documents, reports, and donor proposals.
- Experience influencing and advocating for education priorities with senior government officials.
- Experience working on convergent approaches across sectors such as social policy, child protection, nutrition, health, or WASH.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of Hindi or another UN language is an asset.
- Experience leveraging partnerships and financing to scale programmes is desirable.
- Experience with a UN system agency or organization is an asset.
- Experience in development, fragile, or humanitarian settings is an asset.
- Education in Emergencies experience is an asset.
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
