This role sits within SOS India's Finance department, which manages accounts, budgets, audits and tax compliance for the national office and the organisation's schools.

Role

The Finance Coworker is a senior finance professional who plans and tracks the budgets of SOS schools, keeps their accounts audit-ready, and makes sure the organisation meets every tax and statutory requirement. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works closely with school principals, school accountants, functional heads, tax consultants and auditors. It also carries a coaching responsibility: guiding junior accountants and advising senior colleagues on the right accounting systems and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Plan, forecast and build the annual budget for each school, with a close study of comparable schools in the area.
• Prepare and consolidate the monthly school MIS and carry out variance analysis against budget.
• Track school fee income in full and follow up on fees still to be recovered.
• Liaise with internal and statutory auditors and get the statutory audit of accounts completed.
• Prepare the final accounts and coordinate the closing process.
• Collect accounting returns from schools and submit them to the National Office.
• Handle taxation accounting and maintain the Fixed Asset Register.
• Manage family budget transfers and global accounts.
• Collaborate with staff on income tax preparation and planning.
• Research and resolve tax and accounting questions that affect the organisation.
• Operate Navision and other accounting ERP applications used by the organisation.
• Guide junior accountants and advise senior colleagues on correct accounting systems and procedures, giving timely feedback to the National Office.
• Apply and strengthen internal controls across school and national office accounting.

Requirements

• CA certification is required.
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• 7 or more years of experience in public accounting.
• Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, including Navision.
• In-depth knowledge of tax at local and state levels.
• Strong knowledge of internal control.
• Strong command of MS Office, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Hindi.
• Proven writing, presentation and people management skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Dedication to giving excellent service to the organisation and to the people it works with.
• Execution orientation, operational excellence, relationship building and openness to change.
• Commitment to the organisation's Child and Youth Safeguarding Policy, and to putting it into practice in every part of the work.
• Willingness to travel; the post is based at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
