Azim Premji Foundation

The Philanthropy makes multi-year grants to not-for-profit organisations that work with the most vulnerable people in our society. This support gives people who are deeply disadvantaged and marginalised immediate care, access to essential services, and the possibility of a dignified future. Its Access to Justice work backs organisations that help vulnerable communities understand their rights and the constitutional framework, take part through paralegalism and legal education, and get legal representation when they need it. This role sits within the Philanthropy's Grants unit, which finds, funds and supports partner organisations through the full life of each grant. azim5 (1).jpg

Role

The Grants Manager leads grant making for a set of Access to Justice partner organisations. You will study organisations before funding them, help them shape budgets and proposals, and stay close to their work so the Philanthropy understands what its support is changing on the ground. The role calls for someone who has worked inside legal aid or similar programmes and can judge a partner's strengths with care and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead scoping, programmatic due diligence, and grant management across the complete life cycle for assigned partner organizations.
  • Review grant proposals and work with partner organizations to analyze community impact, develop project budgets, and complete financial evaluations.
  • Direct the grant-making process in compliance with Foundation guidelines while maintaining records within the grant management system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) with 8 to 10 years of social sector experience.
  • Background in access to justice, legal aid, or programs helping vulnerable populations navigate legal/government systems.
  • Prior experience in grant design, evaluation, or management at access-to-justice foundations is desirable.
  • Strong project management skills, high self-motivation, ability to work independently, and willingness to travel extensively.

Benefits

  • Work with a philanthropy that commits to partners over several years rather than single grants.
  • Close contact with legal aid organisations and communities across the country.
  • Independence to lead your own portfolio of grants and partner relationships.
