Role
RightWalk's work is systematically undercommunicated for its scale and impact. The Head of Strategic Communications will change that. This is a senior leadership role that owns RightWalk's public narrative, media relationships, policy advocacy storytelling, and institutional positioning. You will sit alongside the CEO to shape how RightWalk is understood by governments, donors, the media, and the wider policy world.
Responsibilities
- Own and shape RightWalk's public narrative and institutional positioning in the development sector
- Translate complex policy and implementation work into clear, compelling stories for government, donor, and media audiences
- Write and edit op-eds, case studies, founder notes, speeches, media briefs, and thought leadership pieces
- Build and execute a media strategy across print, digital, broadcast, and policy media
- Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and policy commentators
- Manage RightWalk's digital presence including website, social media, and LinkedIn
- Prepare press notes, media kits, and spokesperson briefings for founders and senior leadership
- Lead the communications team and manage content calendars, campaign rhythm, and quality standards
- Collaborate with Fundraising, Policy, Data, and Programme teams to ensure narrative consistency across all external communications
- Ensure government-facing and donor communications are accurate, strategic, and credible
Requirements
- 12 to 18 years of experience in strategic communications, journalism, public affairs, or policy communication
- Prior experience in the development sector, think-tanks, or government communications is strongly preferred
- Proven track record of building institutional narratives, not just producing content, but shaping how organisations are perceived
- Strong editorial judgement with the ability to distinguish between a story that matters and one that merely happens
- Exceptional writing ability across multiple formats including policy briefs, op-eds, social media, and donor narratives
- Existing media network in India with relationships with journalists, editors, and policy media outlets
- Comfortable working closely with founders, receiving high-level strategic direction while owning execution
- Politically sensitive, grounded, and able to protect organisational credibility
