Role
A field-based role planning and delivering health, nutrition, hygiene, and behaviour change education across schools, Anganwadi Centres, and community platforms in an assigned cluster of villages in Punjab. The Health Educator will work closely with the Cluster Coordinator, Community Mobilisers, and frontline workers to help communities adopt healthier practices around maternal and child health, nutrition, adolescent health, and WASH.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver health education sessions across schools, Anganwadi Centres, VHSNDs, - Self-Help Groups, and community meetings, covering topics like maternal and child health, nutrition, anaemia, adolescent health, menstrual hygiene, WASH, immunisation, and healthy lifestyles
- Facilitate interactive school health activities like demonstrations, quizzes, and peer learning, and coordinate with teachers and School Management Committees
- Support community engagement by helping Community Mobilisers organise village meetings and awareness campaigns, and by engaging parents, adolescent groups, and community leaders
- Orient and build the capacity of Community Mobilisers, volunteers, teachers, and frontline workers on key health messages
- Use and adapt approved IEC and behaviour change communication materials for local communities
- Maintain records of sessions and outreach activities, and submit regular reports on health education indicators and success stories to the Cluster Coordinator
- Ensure all activities follow approved technical guidelines and quality standards, and maintain confidentiality and safeguarding practices
- Support health camps, nutrition screenings, community surveys, and other project events as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Nursing, Health Education, Social Work, Community Health, Life Sciences, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of experience in community health education, nutrition programmes, school health, or behaviour change communication
- Experience working with government health programmes, schools, or community organisations is desirable
- Strong understanding of maternal and child health, nutrition, adolescent health, WASH, and behaviour change communication approaches
- Excellent facilitation and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage children, adolescents, caregivers, and community leaders
- Basic computer skills and experience with digital reporting tools
- Fluency in Punjabi and Hindi; working knowledge of English
- Willingness to travel regularly across assigned villages and work flexible hours around school and community schedules
