Thanal

thanal2 (1).jpeg Thanal is a social development organisation working in rehabilitation, health, education, welfare, and mental health. It functions under Daya Rehabilitation Trust, registered under the Indian Trusts Act. Founded in 2008 in Vadakara by a group of local community members and professionals, Thanal today operates from its headquarters in Malaparamba, Kozhikode, with centres across Kerala and programme engagements in 21 Indian states. The organisation is sustained by around 20,000 professionals and volunteers, and works on the principle of reaching the most marginalised and at-risk groups, focusing on holistic rehabilitation rather than relief alone.

Role

Thanal is looking for a proactive and responsible HR Executive to run the complete HR operations of its Wayanad centre. You will be the first person staff turn to for anything about their job, their leave, their pay or a concern they want heard. You will own the employee lifecycle end to end, keep records and the HRMS accurate, support hiring, and make sure the centre's HR practice matches organisational policy and labour rules.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all day to day HR activities of the Wayanad centre and act as the main HR point of contact for staff there.
  • Handle the complete employee lifecycle, from joining and confirmation through transfers, promotions and exit formalities.
  • Coordinate with the Centre Head and functional managers to work out how many people are needed and in which roles.
  • Run recruitment end to end, including sourcing, screening, interview coordination, selection and joining formalities.
  • Maintain recruitment trackers and give management regular updates on staffing.
  • Monitor attendance, leave and regularisation records, and keep the HRMS updated on time.
  • Prepare and submit monthly payroll inputs covering attendance, loss of pay, new joiners, exits and other changes, and work with the central payroll team on queries and corrections.
  • Answer employee questions, handle grievances professionally, and escalate matters when they need a decision above you.
  • Support management on disciplinary matters, warnings and performance concerns in line with organisational policy.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and issue appointment, confirmation, transfer, warning and relieving letters on time.
  • Coordinate with the central HR team on PF, ESI, professional tax and other statutory requirements, and keep the records an audit will ask for.
  • Run employee engagement activities, induction, orientation and awareness programmes, and prepare HR reports and MIS on staffing, attendance, attrition, recruitment and leave for the Centre Head and the HR Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in HR generalist or HR operations work.
  • An MBA, PGDM or MSW in HR is an added advantage.
  • Prior experience independently handling HR operations for a branch, centre, hospital, healthcare organisation, NGO or similar setup is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of end to end HR operations.
  • Good understanding of attendance, leave and payroll processes.
  • Working knowledge of an HRMS and MS Excel.
  • Basic understanding of statutory compliance and labour regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort handling people directly.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication.
  • Strong organisational and coordination ability.
  • Able to keep confidences and handle sensitive employee matters with care.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of centre level HR activities.
  • Good problem solving and decision making judgement.
  • Malayalam proficiency is essential, and English is required for official communication.

Benefits

  • Full ownership of HR for one centre, with the independence to run it yourself.
  • Statutory coverage including PF and ESI, coordinated through the central HR team.
  • Wide generalist exposure in a single role, across recruitment, payroll, compliance, employee relations and engagement.
  • Direct working relationship with the Centre Head and the central HR and payroll team.
