Vital Strategies India Services Private Limited

vital1 (1).jpg Vital Strategies India is a social enterprise based in New Delhi. It helps governments and partners tackle the leading causes of death, disease and injury, so that people live longer and healthier lives. Its team gives technical and management support that is practical, low-cost and suited to local needs. One of its growing programmes works to prevent lead poisoning. Lead poisoning can be prevented, but it harms millions of people, especially children, and causes lasting damage to their health, learning and growth. The programme works with state governments in India to build local skills and to put sound, affordable policies in place.

Role

As the Lead Poisoning Surveillance Coordinator, you will work inside the state health department in Guwahati. You will help the department design, run and track a state-wide programme that tests people's blood for lead. You will connect the government with Vital Strategies, support district teams in the field and turn the data into clear reports that help leaders decide what to do next. The role mixes office work with some work from home, and includes travel to meet government officials and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main link between the state health department and Vital Strategies, keeping communication clear and regular.
  • Support the government to set up a state technical working group on lead poisoning.
  • Help the working group and partners build a state-wide blood lead surveillance plan and standard ways of working.
  • Give technical support to district health officials and frontline workers.
  • Help develop state strategies and action plans to reduce lead poisoning.
  • Plan and run training for health staff, laboratory staff and field teams on blood lead testing.
  • Oversee district and field teams, track data collection and solve problems as they come up.
  • Visit field sites to supervise work and check the quality of the data.
  • Analyse data and prepare reports and presentations for both technical and general audiences.
  • Organise state and district meetings, workshops and webinars, and share findings with partners.
  • Manage project operations, including start-up, logistics, contracts, spending, reporting and buying supplies, with help from the associate.
  • Take on other tasks given by your supervisor.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in public health, environmental health science, epidemiology, health policy or a related field, or an MBBS, is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree in dental science, life sciences or environmental science may also be considered, along with experience in public health programmes, government health systems or environmental health projects.
  • 6 to 7 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years at the state level.
  • 2 or more years of experience managing and analysing public health or environmental health data.
  • Experience working with government health departments and health facilities, and knowing how government systems work.
  • Experience using statistical software such as R, SAS, SPSS or Stata.
  • Experience training health officials, laboratory staff and frontline workers.
  • Experience organising meetings, workshops and discussions.
  • Experience designing or running disease surveillance programmes or state-wide health surveys is a plus.
  • Experience with data visualisation tools and project tools such as Monday or Airtable is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of public health systems and disease surveillance.
  • Strong people skills to build trust and work well with many different partners.
  • Ability to manage many tasks at once, plan ahead and work on your own.
  • Professional spoken and written English, Hindi and Assamese.
  • Good skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • You must live in Guwahati, or move there on your own, to attend in-person meetings. Relocation support is not offered, and preference goes to candidates already based in Guwahati.
  • Willingness to travel to meet government officials and partners, and to work with teams in other time zones.
  • Open to Indian nationals and people with a valid work or residence permit for India.

Benefits

  • A strong retirement plan.
  • Flexible basket reimbursement option.
  • Comprehensive healthcare.
  • Paid leave so you can rest and be there for the people you care about.
  • A mix of office-based and work-from-home days.
  • A chance to work closely with the state government on a public health problem that affects children's lives.
