Bhumi

Bhumi runs the Bhumi Fellowship, a learning and development journey for young people who want to commit to educational equity over the long term. Fellows are placed in government and low income schools in Chennai, where they work directly with children and with school teams to improve learning. The programme grows each year by finding, selecting and preparing new cohorts of fellows from colleges across the region. Getting the right people into that cohort is what decides how many children the fellowship reaches. This role sits within Bhumi's Fellowship team, which recruits, selects and supports the fellows who do that classroom work. bhumi (1).png

Role

You will own the recruitment and selection of the next Bhumi Fellowship cohort from start to finish. That means designing how Bhumi finds strong candidates, building the college, corporate and institutional relationships that bring them in, and running the selection process that decides who joins. You will lead a small team, set the targets with them, and use recruitment data to decide where to spend time and effort.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a recruitment and selection strategy that attracts strong candidates to the Bhumi Fellowship.
  • Own the execution of that strategy end to end, from first outreach through to final selection.
  • Achieve recruitment targets independently on a quarterly and an annual basis.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with colleges and universities in and around Chennai.
  • Partner with companies and other institutions that can refer suitable candidates.
  • Manage a team of recruiters and coach them towards ambitious outcomes.
  • Gather recruitment data and analyse it to decide which channels and campaigns to invest in.
  • Run campus outreach and selection events, travelling often to meet partners in person.
  • Work with internal teams so that recruitment keeps pace with the number of fellows the programme needs.

Requirements

  • Graduate or post graduate degree in any discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of work experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing a team. This is essential.
  • 1 to 2 years of sales, business development or promotional experience in the education segment, mainly with colleges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English and Tamil.
  • Ability to invest in stakeholders and build lasting partnerships.
  • Comfort with data analysis and interpretation, and a good command of MS Excel.
  • Willing to travel extensively.
  • High emotional maturity when handling candidates, partners and team members.
  • Resourceful team player who is also self driven.
  • A forward looking thinker who seeks out opportunities and proposes solutions.
  • Based in Chennai or willing to move there.
  • Available to join immediately.
  • Able to commit to a minimum of two years in the role.

Benefits

  • Full time role paying ₹8,00,000 to ₹9,50,000 a year, set according to your profile.
  • Lead a team and own a full recruitment function rather than a single part of it.
  • Work directly on the pipeline that puts fellows into classrooms with children.
  • Build a wide network across colleges, universities and companies in Tamil Nadu.
