VOPA

Vowels of the People Association (VOPA) is a nonprofit based in Kothrud, Pune. It works across education, mental health, life skills and technology for good. Through programmes such as NIPUN Maharashtra, Saiyam, MYCA and Digital Learning, it runs literacy assessments, a de-addiction programme and mental health support for teachers, often working with government. VOPA wants more people to know about this work and trust it. This role sits within VOPA's communications function, which tells the story of the organisation's field work to the public, donors and partners. images - 2026-08-27T131056.803.jpg

Role

As Manager, Social Media and Communications, you will lead VOPA's strategy, storytelling and brand building on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms. This is more than posting content. You will learn how each project works by asking why, when, where, who and how. Then you will use what you know about platform algorithms, audience behaviour and analytics to decide what is worth sharing, when to share it and in what format. Your goal is to make VOPA a recognised and trusted name in education and social impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead VOPA's social media and communications strategy across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other platforms, in line with organisational and project goals.
  • Learn each project's purpose, context, target group and impact before creating content, by asking why it started, who it serves and what has changed.
  • Turn technical and programme work such as assessments, field data, research and government partnerships into accurate content that the public can easily follow.
  • Use platform algorithms and audience behaviour to decide what to post, when and in what format.
  • Plan, create, edit and publish a steady content calendar of text, graphics, reels, videos and stories in VOPA's voice.
  • Coordinate with programme, field and research teams to gather real stories, data, testimonials, photos and videos, and check facts before anything is published.
  • Track reach, engagement and growth, compare results with similar organisations, and report regularly to leadership.
  • Keep VOPA's visual identity, tone and messaging consistent across all accounts, materials and outside communication.
  • Support donor and partner visibility through acknowledgement posts, event coverage, and inputs for annual reports and case studies.
  • Guide and review the work of social media or design associates, interns and freelancers.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly communications reports, content plans and expense records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mass communication, journalism, marketing, digital media, social work or a related field.
  • Certifications in social media marketing, analytics or graphic design are a plus.
  • 4 to 6 years of experience in social media management or communications, with some of it in the development sector, a non-profit or a mission-driven organisation.
  • Experience building and running a social media or communications strategy on your own, not only following content calendars set by others.
  • Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar topics such as education, de-addiction, mental health and technology, and explain them clearly to the public.
  • Strong understanding of how social media works, including platform algorithms, analytics, audience segments and what drives real engagement.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Working knowledge of Marathi or Hindi is a plus.
  • Hands-on skill with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools.
  • Basic video and reel editing skills.
  • Comfort reading data and monitoring and evaluation reports to find content ideas and proof points.
  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to set goals, track results and change the strategy based on the data.
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members, interns or freelance designers is preferred.
  • Curiosity, discipline, integrity, hard work and a drive for social action.

Benefits

  • Annual CTC of ₹6-9 LPA, depending on experience and fit.
  • Lead VOPA's communications and help decide how the organisation is seen.
  • Guide a team of associates, interns and freelancers.
  • Work across education, mental health, life skills and technology programmes, including government partnerships.
