YR Gaitonde Medical Educational & Research Foundation (YRGMERF)

yrg1 (1).png Set up in 1993, YRGMERF is one of India's leading non-governmental organisations working to improve health outcomes. It brings together direct healthcare, inclusive partnerships and research to answer both today's health problems and the ones coming next. Its work centres on prevention, care, support and treatment, with deep experience in HIV and other infectious diseases. The TIFA project, which this role supports, strengthens national health security by joining up government systems and community groups so that new disease threats are spotted and answered quickly. Under it, a community-based surveillance model lets Self-Help Groups and Mahila Arogya Samitis report early warning signals using the National Centre for Disease Control's IHIP tools. This role sits within YRGMERF's TIFA project team, which builds and records that community surveillance model on the ground.

Role

The Program Associate captures what really happens as the community surveillance model is put into practice, and turns it into clear, honest records others can use. This is not a communications or public relations job. The work is to document what worked, what did not, what had to change along the way, and what another district or state could take from the experience. The documents produced here are meant for government partners such as NCDC and State Health Missions who may want to run the same model, and for the donor who needs to see that the work created knowledge that outlives the project.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a documentation framework in the first month, covering what will be documented, in what format, at what frequency and by whom.
  • Conduct at least one documentation visit to each state per quarter, interviewing community sentinels, government health workers and district coordinators.
  • Write monthly field documentation notes capturing the operational narrative of the surveillance system.
  • Produce quarterly case studies, one process and one outcome, drawn from the most instructive district experiences.
  • Support the Project Lead in preparing narrative sections of quarterly donor reports.
  • Prepare the final project documentation compendium covering district profiles, community mobilisation, training design, IHIP integration and recommendations for scale-up.
  • Manage the project's photographic record, ensuring proper consent, systematic capture, and organised storage for reports and case studies.
  • Coordinate with the Data Quality Control Officer to ensure documentation narratives and data are consistent, resolving discrepancies before inclusion in reports.

Requirements

  • Post-graduate degree in Development Studies, Public Health or Social Sciences.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in programme documentation in the health sector, case study writing or knowledge management in the development or health sector.
  • Strong English writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, jargon-free prose for readers unfamiliar with the field context.
  • Experience conducting qualitative interviews with community members and government functionaries.
  • Competence in basic photography and photo editing for documentation purposes.
  • Willingness to travel to project districts, an estimated 8 to 10 trips during the project period.
  • Hindi fluency required; Kannada or Assamese knowledge is a plus but not mandatory.

Benefits

  • Contribute to a national health security initiative with direct government and community engagement.
  • Produce the project's primary knowledge legacy, used by government stakeholders for potential replication.
  • Work within an equal-opportunity organisation committed to inclusion and diversity.
