SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action)

SNEHA is a Mumbai-based non-profit working to improve the health, nutrition, and safety of women and children in vulnerable urban communities. It runs programmes in maternal and child health, adolescent empowerment, prevention of violence against women and children, and public system partnerships. Between 2016 and 2025, SNEHA directly reached over 6.2 lakh women, children, and healthcare workers, with an indirect impact on 3.63 million people across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

Role

A community health role focused on strengthening maternal and child health services in Palghar. The Program Officer will work closely with health facilities, ASHAs, and community volunteers to improve referral systems, build local capacity, and support quality healthcare delivery at Primary Health Centres.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement field activities including community meetings, joint visits, and antenatal clinic observations
• Solve day to day problems at the community and health facility level
• Plan and run training sessions for ASHAs, community volunteers, and health facility staff
• Mentor and support Community Organizers, Health Committees, and Community Health Volunteers
• Build strong working relationships with health staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
• Support the formation and functioning of Jan Arogya Samitis for better community participation
• Coordinate referral meetings and advocacy meetings with healthcare providers
• Conduct regular monitoring visits to health centres and communities to check service quality
• Track referral systems and documentation standards at health facilities
• Ensure accurate and timely data entry in CommCare
• Maintain programme documentation and support donor and government reporting
• Monitor budget use and handle related administrative documentation

Requirements

• Graduation completed
• At least 5 years of work experience in the social sector, preferably with the health sector and public health system
• Good command over Hindi or Marathi, and English
• Willingness to travel to remote community locations and all office locations
• Own vehicle for travel
• Strong training, communication, and negotiation skills
• Self-driven with the ability to take initiative and solve problems
• Sensitive and empathetic approach to community issues
• Attention to detail and a trustworthy, ethical approach to work
• Location Palghar (Kaman, Bhatane & Parol Primary Health Centres, Vasai Virar Region)
