Research Assistant in Madhya Pradesh | Sangath | ₹4.8 LPA
Sangath
Sangath is a non-profit that works to make mental health and public health care reach everyone. For nearly thirty years it has run research and community programmes built on empathy, teamwork and respect for the people it serves. It trains local community members to provide care, so that support for the mind is available close to home. Sangath has been recognised as a Great Place to Work for its inclusive and supportive culture. This role sits within Sangath's SAHARA programme, which trains ASHA and Anganwadi workers across 8 districts of Madhya Pradesh to support mothers' mental health and young children's growth in the first 1000 days of life.

Role
As a Research Assistant, you will help find out how well two proven programmes are reaching families. The first is Thinking Healthy, a peer-led programme for mothers facing depression during and after pregnancy. The second is Lalan Palan, a video-based parenting programme. You will call families, collect survey and interview data, visit villages and homes, and watch frontline health workers run their sessions. Full-time roles are based in Narmadapuram, Bhopal and Gwalior, and some part-time remote roles are also available. The contract runs until 31 March 2027.
Responsibilities
- Conduct phone calls with families to track how many people the programme reaches over time.
- Collect data through structured surveys and short interviews.
- Travel across Madhya Pradesh to observe ASHA and Anganwadi workers as they run sessions on their own.
- Visit families at home to understand their experience of the programme.
- Keep clear and timely records of activities, observations and findings.
- Prepare data summaries and help write reports for supervision and evaluation.
- Coordinate with health system staff and project partners to keep the programme running smoothly.
Requirements
- A postgraduate degree in public health or a related social science, and training in psychology or psychosocial support is a plus.
- Prior experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, data collection and data analysis.
- Strong spoken and written Hindi and English, including technical and scientific writing.
- Skill in MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel, and some use of NVivo, MAXQDA, SPSS or Stata is a plus.
- Willingness to do field work across Madhya Pradesh for at least 2 weeks a month, and you must own and be able to ride a two-wheeler.
- Experience with literature reviews, working with frontline health workers or taking informed consent in the field is a plus.
- An organised, independent way of working, including when deadlines are tight.
- This role is open to women, because the field work involves close contact with mothers and families. Men will be considered only in exceptional cases.
Benefits
- Salary of up to ₹40,000 a month, with part-time pay set by hours worked.
- Flexible work timings and a supportive work-from-home policy.
- Special leave, including Menstrual Leave and Gender Affirmation Leave.
- Hands-on experience in public health research with an award-winning, people-first organisation.
