Jhpiego

Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organisation and an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University. For over 50 years it has worked to improve the health of women and families by offering good, low-cost health care, training health workers and making health systems stronger. In India, Jhpiego has worked closely with national and state governments since the 1980s, helping design, test and scale practical solutions in areas such as maternal and newborn health, nutrition, immunisation, TB and infectious diseases, women's cancers and digital health. This role sits within Jhpiego's RISE project, which supports government HIV programmes in Telangana by working through existing state, district and facility systems.

Role

As State Program Officer, you will keep the day-to-day work of the RISE project in Telangana organised and on track. You will help State Leads and Technical Advisors give timely, well-recorded support to the State AIDS Control Society (SACS), district teams and health facilities, working through government systems rather than setting up separate ones. The work brings together planning, field visits, workshops, data and reporting, partner follow-up and the step-by-step handover of project work to the government. This is an on-site role based in Bhongir, with regular travel across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain state workplans, calendars, action trackers and deliverable status for HIV project activities, and flag delays and follow-ups to the State Lead.
  • Coordinate regular communication and scheduling with SACS, district and facility teams, national and technical advisors, internal teams and approved partners.
  • Track progress on technical priorities such as integrated services, data and digital work, private-sector engagement, combination prevention and capacity building, and keep meeting decisions and action logs up to date until each task is closed.
  • Plan and manage logistics and records for site visits, state and district reviews, technical working groups, consultations, workshops and trainings, including agendas, participant lists, materials, attendance, minutes and follow-up trackers.
  • Support scheduling and follow-up for assessment and mentoring visits to health facilities such as AAM, PHC, CHC, ART and ICTC centres, and for special activities such as Fast Track City and treatment-outcome workshops.
  • Compile approved programme data, dashboard inputs, district profiles and scorecards for reviews and reports, and prepare monthly and quarterly updates, presentations and learning notes while keeping data confidential.
  • Coordinate with private providers, laboratories, pharmacies, professional associations and community-based organisations on enrolment, reporting, referral networks and approved HIV self-testing, PrEP and PEP activities.
  • Manage travel and activity paperwork, vendor and venue arrangements and organised digital and physical files, and track the handover of tools, materials and responsibilities to government systems.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Health Management, Life Sciences, Development Studies, Management or a related field, with a postgraduate qualification in Public Health or Health Management preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in health or development programme coordination, documentation, stakeholder engagement, reporting support or project operations.
  • Experience with HIV programmes or India's National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) is preferred, along with a working understanding of how state, district and facility teams deliver HIV prevention, care and treatment.
  • Ability to speak Telugu is essential for working with field teams and community members.
  • Good skills in Excel and presentations, and the ability to compile, check and present programme data while keeping it confidential.
  • Experience organising workshops, trainings and stakeholder meetings, with careful follow-up on tasks and deadlines.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Bhongir and travel regularly across Telangana for meetings, workshops, reviews and field visits.
  • Women candidates are preferred for this role.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefits package.
  • A dynamic and supportive workplace at an equal opportunity employer.
  • Close work with government health teams, technical experts and community partners, building practical experience in public health programmes.
