Talent Programs Manager in New Delhi | Room to Read
Room to ReadRoom to Read
Room to Read was founded in 2000 on the belief that world change starts with educated children. It works for a world free from illiteracy and gender inequality, where every child has room to read, learn and grow. Its literacy work trains and coaches early-grade teachers, publishes quality books in local languages, and sets up children's libraries that can be used at school and at home. Its gender equality work supports adolescents, particularly girls, to build life skills, stay in learning and make their own decisions. Room to Read works with communities, partner organisations, publishers and governments to test models that the education system can adopt at scale, and has reached more than 50 million children in 28 countries. This role sits within Room to Read's People Department, which looks after hiring, engagement and the growth of staff across the organisation.

Role
Room to Read is building a new set of global Talent Programs, and this is the person who will build them. The first job is to create the organisation's internship and fellowship programmes from nothing: work out what teams actually need, design the structure and rules, and get the programmes running across countries. After that comes the harder part, which is making them last: measuring what works, fixing what does not, and leaving behind a framework that can later be used for volunteers, alumni and other programmes. The post reports to the Senior Director, Employee Engagement and Development, and is a hybrid role based out of the Room to Read hub in New Delhi.
Responsibilities
- Design and launch Room to Read's global internship and fellowship programmes from the ground up.
- Assess what teams across the organisation need and turn that into programme strategy, structure and implementation plans.
- Establish programme governance, policies, standards and day to day operating procedures.
- Define the full participant journey, from recruitment and onboarding through learning, engagement and completion.
- Build scalable frameworks that can later be applied to volunteer, alumni and other workforce programmes.
- Create implementation roadmaps, project plans, milestones and deliverables.
- Lead cross-functional working groups and coordinate work across teams, countries and competing priorities.
- Partner with Talent Acquisition and internal stakeholders so that recruiting processes and programme design meet local legal requirements while staying consistent globally.
- Build relationships with universities, professional networks, community organisations and other external partners.
- Develop onboarding materials, learning experiences and guidance that help managers support participants well.
- Set programme goals and success measures, and build dashboards that track participation, completion, retention, diversity and satisfaction.
- Gather feedback from participants and managers, and create the documentation, toolkits and transition plan that let Room to Read run and grow these programmes after the 18-month term.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, or an equal combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in HR or People programme management, talent programmes, or a related field.
- Proven record of designing, building and launching new programmes from idea to delivery, preferably inside an HR or People function.
- Experience running talent programmes such as internships, fellowships, workforce development, learning and development, or volunteer programmes.
- Strong project management skills, including running several workstreams, timelines and stakeholders at the same time.
- Experience building scalable processes, governance, documentation and operating frameworks.
- Ability to build cross-functional relationships and influence people without having direct authority over them.
- Experience creating participant learning, onboarding and training materials.
- Strong analytical skills: setting success measures, evaluating how well a programme is working, and using data and feedback to improve it.
- Strong written and spoken communication, including reporting progress, risks and recommendations to senior leaders.
- Helpful to have: experience building programmes across several countries, work in the nonprofit, education or social impact sector, familiarity with HRIS or applicant tracking systems such as Workday, and experience leading change or process improvement.
- Willingness to follow Room to Read's Child Protection Policy, Child Protection Code of Conduct and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policy.
- Legal right to work in the country where the role is based, as Room to Read does not provide visa sponsorship.
Benefits
- Full ownership of a new area of work: these programmes do not exist yet, and you decide how they are built.
- Work alongside colleagues in a global education organisation that has reached more than 50 million children in 28 countries.
- Hybrid working schedule based out of the Room to Read hub in New Delhi.
- Room to Read is an equal opportunity employer committed to identifying and developing the skills and leadership of people from diverse backgrounds.
