Role
The Program Officer will support the strengthening of the maternal referral system across health facilities in Nashik district. You will work directly with government hospitals, PHCs, and municipal health staff to improve how mothers and newborns are referred, tracked, and cared for.
Responsibilities
- Visit and assess health facilities including Sub-District Hospitals, Rural Hospitals, and PHCs to understand how referrals are working and where support is needed
- Coordinate with nodal officers and health staff at both municipal and state levels to ensure referral communication happens on time
- Plan and run training sessions on referral documentation, data entry, and basic clinical processes for doctors, GNMs, and ANMs
- Support health facility staff to maintain accurate referral records, digital data sheets, and outcome data
- Organise and follow up on regular referral review meetings with facility teams and administrators
- Conduct field visits to troubleshoot problems and provide direct, on-site support
- Assist the Program Coordinator in advocacy with Nashik Municipal Corporation and state health officials
- Collect monthly data on referral cases and delivery outcomes from all health facilities and enter it accurately into CommCare
- Prepare monthly descriptive reports, meeting minutes, and case stories
- Help compile data for funder reports and internal reviews
- Support any additional tasks assigned by the Program Coordinator
Requirements
- Graduate degree in any relevant field
- 3 to 5 years of work experience with government health facilities or municipal corporation hospitals
- Experience in Maternal and Child Health programs is preferred
- Fluency in Hindi and Marathi (spoken and written); working knowledge of English
- Comfortable using MS Office tools for documentation and reporting
- Able to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
- Willing to travel within Nashik regularly and to Mumbai once or twice a month as needed
- Must have own two-wheeler (bike or scooter) for local travel in Nashik
- Strong communication and people skills, with ability to build trust with health staff and government officials
- Organised, deadline-driven, and detail-oriented
- Honest, resilient, and able to handle challenges on the ground calmly
