FOSS United is a non-profit foundation focused on building a local ecosystem for Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in India. We believe in the power of open technology to create a better world and work to bring together developers, enthusiasts, and communities to learn and grow together. It supports the people behind India's digital commons through grants, community building, and maintainer programs that help open source creators move from discovery to long-term sustainability.
Role
Support the launch and day-to-day operations of a brand-new grants and maintainer program, working directly with the people building India's open source ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end grants cycle including acknowledgements, disbursals, follow-ups, and check-ins
- Maintain trackers and draft communications related to grants
- Support the upcoming grants working group and help process inbound applications
- Research maintainers and creators doing quality FOSS work in India
- Identify organisations that can contribute to Maintainer Programs
- Help build a Maintainer Pack, a resource and perks collection for the Indian maintainer community
- Build and engage a Maintainer Community
- Coordinate logistics for community calls and other activities
- Connect maintainers who would benefit from introductions
- Represent the foundation and engage with maintainers at events
Requirements
- Understanding of the digital commons and open source ecosystem
- Organised, detail-oriented, and reliable with follow-ups
- Enjoys writing, there will be a lot of it
- Comfortable working with ambiguity in a new, evolving program
- Ability to bring curiosity and energy to daily tasks
- Prior experience in open source, research, grantmaking, or non-profit operations is a bonus
